Title: The Mid-Winter Festival ~~~~ Tonight was the night that Faramir had been dreading for weeks. The mid-winter festival was this evening and though he didn't want to attend, he had no choice now that he was the Steward. Looking into the mirror, he adjusted his deep blue cloak over his pale gray tunic and sighed heavily. The king knew why he didn't wish to attend; all of Gondor knew why he'd not wish to attend. Word had spread quickly when Eowyn had spurned his proposal last summer and now he was attending a festival where people from all over Gondor would be announcing their betrothals for spring ceremonies as well as announcing new courtships. It was a tradition going back for centuries and the king had informed him weeks ago that tonight Faramir would be choosing someone from among the eligible attendees to be his mate. Faramir had assumed he wanted him to choose a woman among the noblewomen at the ball but Aragorn had taken him aside earlier in the day and told him that his choice was truly his own. That he could choose any mate he wanted, but that he *must* choose someone. Faramir had argued that he could hardly choose the person he wished to spend the rest of his days with in a single night, but Aragorn had been adamant. Frowning at his reflection, Faramir brushed his hair back from his face and decided that he would just go and at least make an appearance and hopefully manage to walk away tonight without actually having to choose anyone at all. He wasn't sure how he might manage that, but he was hoping that the king would be distracted enough with his guests that he might actually just forget about the whole thing, particularly if Faramir made a point of avoiding the king as much as possible. So, with the plan for the evening set in his mind, the young Steward made his way downstairs to where the ball was being held. The great hall was decorated lavishly for the time of year with dried flowers, bright candles, and deep red velvet draperies, making the large open space appear more intimate. Faramir greeted the king and queen and once the festivities began, he
headed off in the opposite direction. His last lover had been killed in battle more than three hundred years ago, and though he was lonely, he could never seem to find anyone who stirred his interest the way Elurin had. Lord Celeborn and Lady Galadriel had asked him to escort several of his Elven kin to Gondor, where three of them would announce their betrothals to their Gondorian lovers. He'd never really thought about loving someone of the race of Men, but, since there seemed to be no Elves who attracted him, or seemed attracted *to* him, maybe it was worth a try. He'd promised his brother that if anyone showed any interest in him on this night, he would accept any offer and see it through to the end. Though many saw him as arrogant and a bit haughty, those close to Haldir knew he was painfully shy, coming alive only when he was attending to his duties as Marchwarden, or guarding those he cared about. Rumil nudged him in the ribs and nodded toward the entrance of the great hall. "Him? How about him? No? Haldir, by the Valar, you can't be this choosy!" Haldir glared at his brother. "Rumil, he is too tall!" Haldir argued. "And the second one? He is too short." ~~~ Faramir tried to blend into the crowd of people and simply watched the happy couples dancing. Aragorn had told him to look at the single attendees and try and find someone who caught his eye, but Faramir found he had no desire to. He just wanted to leave but unfortunately, he couldn't even slip away because Aragorn had an announcement he wanted to make at the end of the night about some of the reconstruction and he had to be there for it to fulfill the duties as Steward. He continued to move along the edge of the crowd, hoping he could possibly slip away at least for a few moments. He could always make the excuse that he was getting some air. He decided he liked that idea and started making his way toward one of the balconies, but none other than the king himself stopped him. "So has anyone caught your eye?" Aragorn asked with a kind smile. He knew how against this Faramir was, but he had it on good authority that Faramir would indeed find his mate here tonight. Faramir shook his head for a moment and saw the brief flicker of irritation in his king's eyes. Looking around quickly, he spotted one of the Elven delegations that had traveled to Gondor from Lothlórien and pointed at a tall particularly beautiful blond Elf. "Him." Faramir hoped and prayed that the Elf would do the same as Eowyn had and turn him down. He was betting on the notion that an Elf, especially one so handsome, would not wish to be bound to a man and was simply at the party because they were visitors there and not really seeking a mate. Aragorn looked up to see whom Faramir had chosen and a smile spread across his face. "Him? You certainly made a good choice...that is Haldir of Lothlórien," Aragorn answered, leading Faramir toward the Elves standing in a small group. "Haldir, Rumil, it is good to see you again," Aragorn said smiling at the brothers. Haldir bowed slightly to the king and smiled. "Aragorn forgive me 'your majesty,' it has been far too long since we have talked. I apologize for not seeking you out when we first arrived, but my brother and I have been " His words were cut off mid-sentence as he looked away from Aragorn and studied the man who was standing at his side. He was perfect. Not too tall, not too short, with copper colored hair and sparkling blue eyes made even more breathtaking by the deep blue cloak around his shoulders. Only when Rumil nudged him, did he blink, feeling his face flush and completely forgetting what he was saying. "I yes. Well. It is good to see you too." He seemed unable to look away from the young man, and heard both his brother and Aragorn chuckle softly. "Forgive me. I should go .somewhere," he murmured, thoroughly humiliated by his unusual display of interest. Faramir had hoped that Aragorn would inform him that the Elf he had pointed to was taken, or...or something, but when the king recognized him and drew Faramir closer, he could see that the Elf...Haldir was even more beautiful up close. He swallowed hard and found himself studying the pattern on Haldir's tunic nervously. Aragorn reached out and put his hand on Haldir's arm to keep him from moving away. "I am glad to see you again...but the reason I...we," he added indicating Faramir beside him, "came over here, is because my Steward Faramir...has...chosen you." He knew that the 'rules' of the evening had been explained to the single attendees tonight and he hoped that Haldir would accept. It was his choice to turn Faramir down...Faramir however, did not have that luxury of choice. Faramir stood silently watching the beautiful Elf and wondering what his choice would be. //Surely he doesn't want me. A stranger. A mortal Man.// The Elves, he reasoned again to himself, would be a safe choice, and he hoped he was right, despite the fact that he couldn't seem to stop staring at the beautiful being. Haldir's mouth dropped open and he simply stared at the king and the man beside him. "He he did?" Without waiting for Aragorn to answer, he looked at Faramir and had to lick at his lips several times before he could speak. "You did?" Rumil's hand moved to rest on Haldir's lower back and he gently pushed his elder brother toward the steward. "He did," he said softly, thrilled that this one, at least seemed to be more to Haldir's liking though he had never in all his years seen Haldir practically speechless as he was now. Allowing Rumil to push him forward, Haldir's smile widened. Even if he didn't find this man so incredibly attractive, he *had* told his brother he would not turn anyone away if they showed interest and being chosen like this was certainly showing interest, he thought. "I would be honored," he said softly, for the first time in his life willing to just take a chance, and let the Fates decide his path. Faramir looked up and stared into sparkling blue eyes; unable to believe the Elf was accepting. "You...you are?" he asked blinking and then looking at Aragorn beside him who was grinning from ear to ear. Moving away, Aragorn smiled at Rumil and then looked back to his nervous steward, "I suppose we should leave these two alone...Faramir since you have chosen, I release you from your duties of Steward for the rest of the evening so you may get to know Haldir better." Faramir simply looked from Haldir to Aragorn for a moment and nodded. "I...thank you, your highness," he murmured at a complete loss. He was certain that Haldir would have begged off, saying that he was an Elf and could not be bound to a man or...or that he was taken and simply there to enjoy the festivities. Haldir stared down at the floor for a moment before clearing his throat and smiling at Faramir. "Well," he said, trying his best to keep the nervousness from his voice. "I must say this is unlike me. I am not usually one to take a chance like this, but then again, neither is it like me to be speechless when I see someone for the first time. I suppose on a night like this, both men and Elves are trusting in a higher power to guide them?" Faramir couldn't help smiling in return, when Haldir looked up at him and smiled so enchantingly. "I...are...Haldir, are you certain you understand the rules here tonight? That...well...that you have a choice; you will have that choice for ten sunsets of course. You...you don't have to do this if you don't wish," he said softly. A part of him had seemed to change since Haldir smiled at him, after dreading this night and then purposefully choosing a mate he thought would automatically say no, he found himself hoping that Haldir would accept; not only tonight but ten days from now. That thought startled him. //He can't possibly want this...I...I may have chosen him but not for the right reason. I can't just point at someone because they are beautiful and say they will be my mate for life. How...how can he accept?// "I understand," Haldir smiled. "One of your men explained the rules when we first arrived. I honestly did not think anyone would choose me, especially anyone as handsome as yourself, but yes I knew what I was accepting when I said I would be honored. And I meant it. I know we have ten sunsets and I would like to at least have those ten sunsets to get to know you better. If you change your mind, I will understand, but I hope we can at least talk for a while, and see if there is any chance for anything more than friendship. If if you've changed your mind already, of course, I will understand " His words trailed off yet again, and he wondered if he had already managed to scare Faramir away, after only knowing him for a few moments. Faramir swallowed hard and couldn't admit that he wasn't at liberty of changing *his* mind. Only the person chosen could change their mind, not the one who made the initial choice. "I...I have not changed my mind, I just...I am surprised that you accepted," he said softly. Looking into Haldir's eyes, yet again he felt drawn to the Elf somehow and shyly looked away. "Would you like to get some air? That was actually where I was heading when Aragorn found me," he said offering his arm to Haldir. He could feel the eyes of others upon them, and knew that word was spreading that the Steward had made his choice. Haldir smiled and locked his arm around Faramir's. "I would love some air," he said, feeling a jolt of electricity shoot through his hand where their skin touched. "And I think there are many, many eyes watching us at the moment. Maybe we would do well to get away from them as well." As they headed out toward the gardens, he could hardly believe this was happening to him. He noticed Rumil smiling broadly, and gave him a weak nod, already worried that before the end of their ten days, Faramir would be begging him to reconsider and free him from his promise. But for now for now he would take pleasure in getting to know the young steward, and hope that he could at least hold his interest for a few days. Faramir nodded as Haldir said there were many eyes watching them. //Oh if you only knew how 'sorry' they felt for me...knew their gossip, you'd probably walk away right now.// Warmth seemed to radiate up his arm from where Haldir's touched him and he wondered at that for a moment. Perhaps it was because he was an Elf? Moving out onto the low balcony that led out into a large garden, Faramir breathed in the cool night air and turned to look at his companion. In the soft light from the sconces on the outer walls and the moonlight in the clear winter sky, Haldir seemed to almost glow with an inner light. He was quite simply the most stunning being he'd ever seen. "Have you ever been to Gondor before?" he asked, certain that he would have remembered one such as Haldir. "No," Haldir said, shaking his head. "I only came here tonight as an escort to some of my kin they are here to announce their betrothals to some of your people. My brother and I always escort them, since we have no one at home to miss us, and usually take our time in returning. We travel often, and normally, I hate doing this, but at the risk of offending you, I think this trip was the best I have ever been on. Even if you regret your decision, I am incredibly happy that you even considered me, Faramir, and, if you wish for me to tell the king that I cannot accept, I will do so, and you need not fear hurting me. I have been alone for a very, very long time, and honestly most of the Elves in Lorien fully expect me to be alone forever. I was starting to think the same thing myself." Faramir was startled when Haldir offered to tell the king that he couldn't accept for *his* sake. Then he shook his head in wonder as Haldir said he'd been alone a long time and that others expected him to be alone forever. "Forever? I...I can't imagine someone as beautiful as you wouldn't be highly sought after," he said softly and wondering if all the Elves in Lorien were blind. Haldir's face flushed and he looked at Faramir with wide eyes. "Highly sought after?" he repeated. "Me? Not by any stretch of the imagination. I am over two thousand years old, and have only ever been 'involved' with two other Elves. One decided he liked my brother Orophin better, which was no great surprise to me, and the other was killed in battle a few hundred years ago. Neither of them were the great loves of my life, but, since then, I have been alone. It is mostly by choice, as I prefer my books and my duties, but sometimes I do miss having someone to spend time with." Faramir was surprised by what Haldir had to say and looked at him for a long moment. "Three hundred years is a long time to be alone," he said thinking of how he had felt after Eowyn had turned him down. Even if he hadn't loved her, it had hurt, and he could never imagine losing a lover in battle. Even if they hadn't been the love of Haldir's life it couldn't have been easy to lose someone you shared a part of yourself with. "Why...why did you accept tonight?" he asked curiously. When they had moved outside, they had released one another's arms. Faramir found that he wanted to feel Haldir's touch again but was unsure of moving closer. Haldir shrugged. "I decided this once, to let the Valar guide me. My brother was pointing out what he thought were suitable mates for me, determined that I would find someone tonight. I told him again and again that I was not interested in any of the ones he pointed out, but that if someone was truly interested in me, I would at least give them the benefit of the doubt, and hope for the best. I had no idea someone as handsome as yourself would even look twice at me and even if I had not made that promise to Rumil, my answer would have been the same. I would be more than honored to be your anything. Friend, lover, mate at the end of our time together, I will let you decide what you want, Faramir. Even if it is for me to leave, I will abide by your wishes." Faramir stood for a moment staring at Haldir in shock. //I can't believe he finds *me* handsome...and that he's willing for anything? Gods...I had been so against this tonight and now I'm faced with someone so beautiful, and so open that I would be a fool not to see if there could be more between us.// "I would never force anyone into anything...Haldir, if at the end of the ten days you feel that you could not possibly be my mate, I wish for you to say so. No matter who pressures you otherwise, your brother, the king, whomever. This is your choice and I will not tie you to something you do not want," he whispered softly. Haldir worried his bottom lip for a moment as he gazed into Faramir's eyes. "I do not think I would have any qualms about being tied to you," he said softly. "In fact, as I said earlier, when the king introduced us, it would be my honor. I feel something when I look into your eyes that I have never felt before. Though I do not expect you to feel the same, I will do everything I can to be whatever you need." Slowly, he reached down and tentatively tangled his fingers with Faramir. "Maybe for now, we can forget about any big decisions and just talk? Or take a moonlight stroll?" Again Faramir was shocked that Haldir *wanted* him. Obviously whatever he saw in Faramir, no one else ever had. He almost sighed from the thought, but before he could do anything else he felt Haldir's fingers gently touch his own. Smiling as Haldir tangled his fingers with his, Faramir squeezed them gently in return, encouraging Haldir. He'd never met anyone like Haldir before. Being a rather shy person himself, he found it nice to meet someone equally if not more shy than he was. It was a quality in Haldir that he found endearing. "A moonlight stroll sounds like a wonderful idea," he whispered. They began to move away from the balcony and into the garden, the air was cold, but he hardly noticed as they walked. "You spoke of books earlier...I too enjoy reading." The same heat ran through Haldir's fingers as he'd experienced the first time they'd touched, and his smile grew even wider when Faramir said he enjoyed reading. "I think I have read every book in Lorien and Rivendell put together," he laughed, feeling more relaxed already that Faramir had not pushed him away. "I hope to read everything your library has to offer as well //If you wish for me to stay, that is.// Maybe we can read together sometime? You could show me your favorite books and well, I mean I know it is getting late. Do we I mean where would I be expected to sleep? In guest quarters or in your room?" He found the thoughts of spending the next few nights with Faramir more than attractive, but wasn't sure what the custom after a betrothing party was especially since he hadn't truly listened very well, thinking that no one would ever pick him. Faramir smiled as Haldir spoke of his love of reading and they stopped at the edge of the garden near a small bench. "I would enjoy showing you our library here...and I have quite a few books in my own room. We...well you would sleep in a room that adjoins to mine. It is part of the custom, you...you aren't expected to...well...at least not before the end of the ten days," he murmured the last and was grateful for the shadows not letting his blush show. //Not that I would mind // Haldir's face flushed as well, and he laughed softly. "I would love for you to tell me more about Gondor," he said. "If there is any chance at all that I would be living here, I would like to know her history and more about your duties as steward." Faramir found himself smiling happily when Haldir laughed. His laugh
was lovely and he hoped to hear it more in the future. "I would love
to tell you all about Gondor...and of my duties," he said softly.
As the cold winter wind picked up, he shivered slightly. "Would you
like to get settled in your room? Or...or come to mine for a...a glass
of wine? We...can talk more comfortably there I think," he offered
nervously. Faramir laughed softly and nodded. "Unfortunately you'll feel that a lot, there seems to always be curious looks following me since I became Steward," he said softly. Leading Haldir back into the hall, Faramir carefully moved between the other revelers and moved toward the large staircase that led to the royal quarters. His suite was several doors from the royal suite. He didn't notice that Aragorn had looked up and seen them. Leaning over to his wife, Aragorn smiled and whispered in Arwen's ear, "Looks like you and Gandalf were right after all." Arwen laughed softly and nodded in agreement as she watched the couple disappear up the large staircase. Haldir blushed as knowing eyes followed them, and he knew that everyone
present would be whispering about them going to Faramir's room. So be
it. He knew that once Aragorn announced their betrothal, the tongues would
wag even harder, but for once, he didn't mind. He was proud to be seen
as Faramir's intended, and already found himself hoping that the steward
wouldn't change his mind. While he loved his life in Lothlórien,
he was lonely, sometimes wondering how everyone around him could be so
happy, and he could feel so alone and hopeless. Rumil had long told him
he needed to find someone to love, but he was simply too shy to take that
first step, even if he did find someone who interested him. Now, Faramir
had taken care of that little problem, and Haldir was more excited than
he could say at the prospect of what *could* happen. Haldir watched Faramir, marveling at how gracefully he moved, wondering if he would ever get the chance to watch those lean, undoubtedly firm muscles move without the hindrance of clothing. Already, he felt more at ease around the steward, and found himself smiling happily as Faramir offered him a tall glass of wine. "Thank you," he said, bowing his head slightly before looking around the room. "I see you were serious about your love of books. This looks like my talan back in Lothlórien filled with books in every shelf and every corner. Sometimes, when duty allows, I get so lost in reading I forget to eat or sleep and I imagine you probably do the same." Faramir smiled as he sat down and nodded. "Actually I do...the king
has come in before and found me fast asleep at my desk with a book. He
says that I should get more rest and eat better than I do...but I can't
seem to stop reading sometimes," he said softly. He watched as Haldir
took a drink of the sweet wine and set his own glass aside. "Besides
reading...what other things do you enjoy?" he asked wanting to learn
more about Haldir. He may as well get into the spirit of things and try
and see if maybe, just maybe he and Haldir *could* be right for each other.
His mind told him that he was fooling himself, while his heart had hope. Faramir's words trailed off as he saw Haldir's eyes flicker to the balcony where they could hear the guests leaving the party. "Oh my...I'm afraid I've kept you up almost all night," he said apologetically. "I...I suppose you would like to see your room...and get some rest," he said standing up and offering his hand to Haldir. When their hands touched, he felt the same warmth flow through him as he had before and as Haldir stood before him, Faramir found himself unable to move away or even speak. They simply stood before one another for a long moment. "You have the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen," Faramir finally heard himself whisper, barely realizing he said the words aloud. Haldir was just about to say he hadn't minded at all, that he'd enjoyed their talk more than he'd enjoyed anything in a long time, but before he could speak, Faramir had offered his hand and whispered quietly to him. Gathering all his courage, he lifted one slightly shaking hand and let his fingertips run lightly over Faramir's cheek. "I was thinking the same thing about your eyes earlier," he said softly. Without even realizing it, he'd moved closer, his gaze locked with Faramir's as his heart pounded furiously in his chest. "You have the most perfect lips as well," he murmured, finally letting his gaze move downward as he fought the urge to lean forward and kiss the man before him. Faramir felt his heart racing in his chest as Haldir's fingers gently moved against his cheek. As they moved closer together and Haldir's eyes moved to his lips, he smiled and raised his own hand to gently cup Haldir's cheek, his thumb brushing over a soft full lower lip. Without a word and before he even thought, Faramir leaned forward and sealed his lips against Haldir's. His lips were warm and soft as Faramir's tongue licked against them and he moaned softly as Haldir's lips parted, granting him access. His tongue slipped beyond smooth perfect teeth to dance with Haldir's, the sweetness of the kiss burning through him. Letting his arms slide around Faramir's waist, Haldir sighed into the kiss, tilting his head to the side to offer easier access. As every inch of his mouth was explored with such exquisite tenderness, his arms tightened and one moved up so that he could gently curl his fingers in Faramir's hair. After long moments, the warm, wet muscle slid back between Faramir's lips, and Haldir took that as in invitation to do a little exploring of his own. Slowly, he pressed his tongue forward, already loving the way Faramir tasted, the sweet heat of his mouth like nothing Haldir had ever tasted before. Finally, he pulled away breathlessly; his fingers still curled in the hair at the base of Faramir's neck as he leaned forward and rested their foreheads together. A small smile touched Haldir's lips when he noticed the man in his arms was as breathless as Haldir himself. "Yes," he murmured, "without a doubt, the most perfect lips I have ever seen." Faramir's hands sank into Haldir's silken hair and he moaned into the kiss as Haldir's tongue gently explored his mouth. All that he knew was that he had never shared a kiss like this with anyone before. It made his heart stumble in his chest and stirred him in ways that were beyond the physical. As Haldir drew away and they rested their heads together he smiled as Haldir spoke. "I've never had a kiss affect me so," he whispered as his fingers trailed through Haldir's hair. Haldir leaned back to study Faramir's eyes, hoping against all hope that he wasn't just toying with him. He saw nothing but sincerity, however, and his smile widened. "Nor have I," he said softly. "I am glad you chose me tonight, Faramir. Even if you change your mind before our 'courtship' days are over, the entire evening the entire *trip*, even, was well worth it for that kiss." Laughing softly, Faramir shook his head. "I am not sure that I wish to change my mind," he said smiling. "I've...no one has ever made me feel this way, Haldir. I will admit I picked you because....I honestly thought you'd turn me down. I was afraid that I couldn't possibly find someone in one night that I would *want* to be with like this...but I can easily picture a future with you. And...I admit it does frighten me a bit. It is still your choice, for the next ten sunsets it will be your choice, Haldir," he whispered. //I'm so afraid now that you will change your mind and return to Lorien. I didn't lose my heart to Eowyn but I fear I will lose it to you.// Shaking his head, Haldir leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss to Faramir's lips. "I find it hard to believe anyone would turn you down," he whispered as he drew back and let one hand fall from Faramir's waist to lock their fingers together once again. "But since the moment you picked me, I have been wondering what a life with you would be like. I will not change my mind. And I can honestly say I am praying you don't change yours either." Faramir smiled sadly when Haldir said that he found it hard to believe anyone would turn him down. "Someone did turn me down, last summer...that was why we were being watched so closely. Is poor Faramir...the lesser son of Denethor going to be rejected again?" he said softly. "All I can say is...that I do hope that in the days to come you won't leave, but even so...I will cherish the time we will have." Haldir's eyes widened, and he finally released his other arm from around Faramir's waist and tucked a lock of hair behind his ear. "Poor Faramir? *Lesser* son?" The words tasted sour on Haldir's tongue. "I think whoever turned you down is regretting it already. If we do end up wedded, I shall tell this person that I will not share my husband with them, when they realize their mistake and come begging for you back." His face grew serious and his gaze met Faramir's once again. "I have only one question if we do marry, do you plan on it being a marriage of convenience, or a real marriage, where neither of us seeks another for intimacy?" Faramir sighed and shook his head. "They would not come back, and even if they did I wouldn't want them back," he said seriously. "But...I do want a real marriage, Haldir. That was why I was so apprehensive about tonight, because I want it to be real....for both of us. I...I would never break my vows, even if I had married that other person though I knew they were not the love of my life, I would never have broken my vows to her," he said softly. "Handsome, kind, *and* honorable," Haldir said with a smile. "I think I will love being your mate, Faramir. I think I could very, very easily fall in love with you in fact, I think it has already started to happen. I have never enjoyed myself around another as much as I have tonight never been able to relax and just be *me* with anyone. Thank you for that." Faramir smiled as Haldir spoke and brushed a lock of hair back from the side of Haldir's face. Tucking the silky lock behind an elegant ear, he smiled again unable to believe this beautiful Elf felt anything at all for him. "Thank you, for accepting tonight. I believe it will be very easy to fall in love with you as well. Maybe I should trust fate more?" he said softly. Realizing the time again, Faramir stepped back regretfully. "I have kept you awake all night though...I suppose you would like to go to your room and rest." He was on the verge of asking Haldir to stay with him but he was afraid it may be too soon and though it wasn't viewed as an impropriety because of the nature of the festival, he feared that what they felt might disappear once the physical need was met. Gazing into Haldir's eyes though, he was unsure that the physical need *would* truly ever be quenched. Haldir's heart felt even lighter as Faramir spoke. He'd never really thought of himself as someone who was easy to fall in love with, especially after Elurin had left him, but just this once, he hoped that Faramir's words were true. "I definitely think you should trust fate more," he murmured. Looking toward the door of his room, he sighed, not *really* wanting to leave Faramir's side, but wondering if Faramir would be offended if he said as much. "I suppose we should both rest," he said, making no move toward the door. "Good night, Faramir. I hope you have the sweetest of dreams." Faramir drew Haldir's hand up to his lips and kissed it tenderly. "I will have the sweetest of dreams because I know they will all be of you," he whispered boldly. He knew his face was as flushed as Haldir's now was but he didn't seem to care. Slowly, he walked with Haldir to the door that separated their rooms and he found himself unable to release Haldir's hand. "I admit that I'm having a hard time letting you out of my sight for fear that I'm already dreaming," he whispered. "And I admit I feel the same way," Haldir said, just as softly as his fingers curled tighter round Faramir's. Leaning against the doorjamb, he sighed. "I think I miss you already." Looking toward the balcony in Faramir's room, he smiled. "I have no doubt that everyone at the party, my bother included, think we will be sharing a bed tonight. Even the King had a certain sparkle in his eye as we left the party." Faramir smiled indulgently when Haldir looked toward the balcony. //When have you ever taken a chance in your life? Take one now, Faramir.// Taking a deep breath he smiled as Haldir looked back at him. "Then perhaps we should not disappoint them?" he said softly, his heart racing in his chest. He watched as Haldir's eyes darkened, and the air around them seemed to thicken. Haldir's heart completely stopped beating for a moment as Faramir's words sunk in. Without giving himself time to think, he moved from the doorway and closed the door to his newly assigned room behind him. "I think perhaps you are correct," he smiled. "A disappointed brother and a disappointed king would be difficult to deal with at the best of times, not to mention tomorrow, after they have drunk their fill of ale tonight." Squeezing the hand in his own, he looked toward the bed. "Besides we should determine if we are compatible, don't you think?" His eyes widened at his own words, but here and now, with Faramir, he felt he could say anything, could completely be himself and not worry about anyone laughing at him, or rejecting him, or thinking him unworthy as a mate. Faramir *wanted* him, he could see that in the sparkling blue eyes before him, and the Valar knew Haldir wanted Faramir just as much. Faramir smiled as the door was shut again and Haldir teased about his brother and the king. "Compatibility is very important in any relationship," he said seriously as if weighing a scientific fact and loving the way Haldir's eyes widened as if he'd spoken so boldly he'd surprised himself. Faramir found that absolutely enchanting, and tangled his fingers with Haldir's leading him toward the bed. As they stopped beside it, Faramir realized his own hands were shaking and he smiled nervously. "Are...are you certain this is what you want?" he asked wanting to make absolutely certain that Haldir wasn't having second thoughts. "I have never been more certain of anything in my life," Haldir said, letting his fingertips glide up Faramir's arm and down over the hollow of his throat. "I have not been with anyone in a very, *very* long time, but I have never wanted anyone this much either. You are certain as well that you want this? That you want me?" "Gods, yes, I do want you, Haldir," Faramir said softly. His flesh tingled where Haldir's fingers moved along his skin and his hands were trembling as he reached up to unfasten the clasp at the neck of Haldir's tunic. Leaning closer, his lips sealed over Haldir's as his hands continued to move along the fastenings to his soon to be lover's tunic. The kiss was slightly more urgent than the one they had shared before, and he could feel Haldir's fingers moving against him undressing him as well. Lost in the kiss, he felt Haldir tug at the material on his shoulders and drew away breathlessly to let the garment fall to the floor. He took the opportunity to rid Haldir of his tunic as well and then stood staring at the smooth muscular planes of his chest. "Gods, you are gorgeous," he whispered. Haldir blushed and smiled as he slowly combed his fingers through the fine mass of hair scattered across Faramir's chest. His hopefully-soon-to-be husband was even more incredible underneath his clothes, and his heart skipped a beat as he looked into Faramir's eyes. "As are you," he breathed, pressing his bare chest against his lovers and letting his hands move smoothly over the firm muscles of his back. "Though I had the feeling you would be. I was watching you earlier, wondering about how your skin would feel against mine and how sweet you would taste when we finally kissed." He moved closer with each word and by the time the last word was out of his mouth, he'd leaned forward and sealed his mouth over Faramir's in another kiss, this one more passionate than the first. One hand stayed on his lover's back as the other moved down and untied the thin belt around Faramir's waist and he slowly pushed the steward's breeches to the floor. Absolutely enchanted by the blush on Haldir's face, Faramir smiled. His heart was beating loudly in his ears as he simply stared into Haldir's eyes as gentle hands moved over his skin. Faramir's arms wrapped around his lover, and his hands moved slowly over the warm perfect skin, loving every dip and curve of Haldir's perfect form. He'd never seen anyone so beautiful in his life, let alone had them in his arms like this. Surprised by Haldir's words, he almost spoke but then Haldir's mouth was pressed against his in a perfect kiss, filled with even more passion than the ones before. He could feel his arousal growing rapidly, trapped inside his breeches, but then suddenly careful fingers were moving at his waist and soon the confining garment was gone. His own hands moved to return the favor, and within moments he and Haldir were completely undressed and in one another's arms again. Warm skin moving together as their lips sought one another in kiss after passionate kiss. Haldir leaned back and maneuvered them until they were lying on the bed without ever breaking the seal of their lips. He thought vaguely that whoever had turned Faramir down had no idea what they were missing and he was all the more grateful that he was being given this opportunity to be with him like this. His arousal was aching and he was almost shocked to find his hips shifting shamelessly, low moans falling from his lips as his oversensitive sex moved against Faramir's thigh. "Gods," he murmured, finally pulling away from the kiss and licking a slow, wet trail to the warm skin just below his lover's ear, where he nuzzled and nipped gently, "I want to feel you inside me, Faramir." Faramir was so caught up in their kiss he hardly noticed when they were finally tangled together on the bed. Their bodies moved together, and he moaned into his lover's mouth as their arousals brushed against one another. Haldir seemed to know every spot on his body that kindled fire within him and when they finally drew apart he was panting for breath. "Gods," he barely managed the word as Haldir continued to tease him with gentle nuzzles to his neck. Reaching over to the bedside table, he knocked the top off the oil lamp there, not even caring when the glass fell to the floor against the soft rug with a soft thud. His fingers dipped into the slick substance and he leaned up on one arm to look at Haldir. His eyes skimmed down his lover's body, traveling over perfectly formed muscles and downward to where Haldir's arousal stood glistening with slick fluid gathered at the tip. Leaning over, Faramir's lips traveled the same path his eyes had, down his lover's body, teasingly licking and nipping the warm skin as he went. After long moments, his fingers moved between his lover's legs to tease the puckered entrance there as his tongue darted out to taste his lover for the first time. Closing his eyes for a moment, Faramir found himself hoping with all of his heart that Haldir would choose to stay at the end of the ten days. A low moan fell from Haldir's lips as Faramir moved down his body, and his hand reached down to tangle in soft copper-colored hair. Licking at his lips, he watched the erotic sight of his lover's tongue gently lapping at his sex, and is legs spread wider in invitation as a long finger moved over his entrance. He was worried that he might not be all Faramir expected in a lover, but better to find out now than after they were wed. It had been so long - over three centuries - since he'd let anyone take him, but he was as relaxed as he could be, given the circumstances, somehow knowing, without the slightest doubt that Faramir would be as gentle as any lover could be. "It's been a long time," he murmured shyly. "A long time since anyone has touched me, or or tasted me, Faramir. I hope I don't disappoint you." Faramir drew away slightly and looked up at Haldir with a small smile. "There is no way you can disappoint me, Haldir. I'm already astounded by you," he whispered as his fingers continued to tease his lover gently, wanting to make sure that Haldir was as relaxed as he could be. His fingers moved against the puckered opening slowly for long moments. Lowering his head again, his lips sealed over the tip of his lover's arousal and he sunk forward as one finger gently dipped inside his lover, slowly moving deeper each time he felt the tense muscle relax. After long moments, his finger was buried to the second knuckle and he gently stretched the tight muscle, feeling his own arousal throb with the thoughts of being buried deep inside the tight heat of his lover's body. Smiling softly, Haldir saw that Faramir was sincere, though he didn't understand how someone so wonderful could actually want him like this not to mention want him as his *mate*. His back arched up off the bed and he whimpered as his length was slowly engulfed by the heat of his lover's mouth. He barely registered the slick finger sliding inside him, and he smiled down at Faramir, thinking that already, in only a few hours, he felt more treasured than he had with anyone else he'd ever known. //Gods, yes, I would love to be yours, Faramir. More than anything, I want that.// As the finger inside him brushed over his pleasure spot, he moaned low and deep in this throat, fighting the urge to press his hips down on the finger delving inside him, and up into the blessed warmth of Faramir's mouth. Faramir could feel Haldir's muscles clench and release against him as he brushed against the tiny bundle within his lover, hoping to give him as much pleasure as possible as he prepared him for more. After long moments, Faramir added a second finger and continued to move within his lover, until he was certain he was ready for more. Drawing his lips back to the tip of his lover's arousal, he let his tongue tease the leaking slit there for a moment before drawing away again as his fingers slipped from his lover easily. Slicking his arousal with more of the oil, Faramir had to grit his teeth and concentrate to not let himself lose control right then. Slowly he moved forward, pressing the aching length against his lover for a moment before slowly sinking within incredibly tight heat. Haldir's breath caught in his throat as Faramir sheathed himself inside his body. The slight ache as he was slowly taken was easily ignored as he looked up into his lover's eyes. Where they had been a clear blue only moments before, now they were dark with desire, and Haldir felt his heart swell with the knowledge that Faramir wanted *him*. He could tell how difficult it was for Faramir to hold back, and Haldir lost a part of his heart to him as his lover continued to move with such patient care. His legs wound around Faramir's waist and he forced himself to relax around the thick length. After only a moment, he reached up and cupped Faramir's face in his hand. "I'm fine," he whispered. "Take me, Faramir. Show me what it would be like to be yours." Faramir moved forward slowly, fighting the desire to thrust into the incredible body wrapped around him. After long moments, he was finally fully sheathed within his lover and he paused, leaning forward to kiss his lover gently as his body adjusted. As he drew away and Haldir cupped his face so gently, he smiled and felt fire race through him from Haldir's words. They seemed to settle around him warmly, and Faramir began to move, gradually his hips drew back and he sunk forward again, setting a slow pace as Haldir's body accepted him. "You are amazing," he whispered softly. As he gazed into Haldir's eyes he knew that he could so easily love him and he hoped that Haldir might feel the same. The feeling of Faramir moving inside him was even better than Haldir had imagined. He found himself unable to look away from his lover's face, and smiled as the words reached his ears. "Not so amazing," he said with a smile. "Just incredibly happy at the moment to be here with you like this. Reaching up, he let his fingertips run lightly over the small, dark nipples that hardened underneath his touch, and gasped as Faramir's arousal pressed firmly against his prostate. His body clenched around his lover's length, and he knew that, without a doubt, he wanted to stay here with Faramir for as long as he would have him. //I think I knew it when you looked at me, all those hours ago, at the party and if I wasn't sure then, I am now. I'm falling for you so hard, Faramir, and I wouldn't stop it if I could.// Faramir continued to move, his pace gradually growing as they lost themselves in one another. Resting his weight on one hand, the other traced along Haldir's jaw gently for a moment before moving slowly down his lover's body to the hard arousal trapped between them. Wrapping his fingers around the leaking shaft, he began to stroke it in time with his own thrusts and loving the soft moans falling from Haldir's lips. He was perfect, more than anyone he'd ever known and Faramir found it hard to believe that Haldir wanted him this way. "You *are* amazing to me..." he whispered softly in return as their bodies moved as one. Faramir's release was building rapidly, too rapidly, he wanted this moment to last but it was all too much. His lover's heat, his body, his eyes gazing into Faramir's... everything about him was absolute perfection. Haldir's back arched up off the bed again as strong fingers wrapped around his length and his legs tightened, pulling his lover in even deeper. His hands scrambled over the sheets, desperate to find purchase as his sex began to leak onto his stomach. Faramir's hand moved easily now, slicked by Haldir's own juices and he was almost incoherent with the pleasure of the thick shaft moving inside him combined with long, sure strokes to his arousal. "I'm close," he warned, knowing that he could only last a few moments more, no matter how hard he tried to wait. Faramir moaned as Haldir warned him and nodded. "I am too...come with me, Haldir," he gasped. //Gods, let me learn what it is to know you this way, even if it ends up only being this once I will cherish this moment, this night forever.// He sped his pace as Haldir's body gripped him tightly and within moments, Faramir thrust deeply one last time as he cried out, spilling deep within his lover. His hand continued to move along the slick length between them, and his hips continued to thrust as tight muscles drew more and more of his release from him. The moment he felt Faramir's seed fill him, Haldir cried out his lover's name and felt his release slam into him. He spilled over the fingers wrapped around his length and his entire body clenched around the pulsing organ still buried deep inside his passage. As his own fluids slipped over Faramir's fingers and down onto his stomach, Haldir lay trembling in the aftermath of the most intense orgasm he'd ever had. "Well," he murmured breathlessly after a few moments, "I think we are definitely compatible. At least it felt like it to me. It felt perfect." Faramir was trembling as Haldir's release seemed to draw his own even out longer before he lay down against his lover, heedless of the slick fluid spilled between them. His arms carefully slid under his lover to draw him even closer as he buried his face in Haldir's neck. He chuckled as Haldir spoke and kissed his neck gently, feeling his pulse pounding as fast as Faramir's own. "It felt like it to me too...no one has ever...made me feel like that," he admitted. After a moment he leaned up and gazed into Haldir's eyes, smiling happily. "Will...will you stay with me?" he asked though his heart already wanted to ask him to stay forever. Smiling as he snuggled into his lover's embrace, Haldir buried his face against the warmth of Faramir's neck and nodded. "I would love to," he whispered, gently sucking an earlobe into this mouth and running his tongue over the edge. "I'm not sure I could walk back to the other room even if I wanted to and I don't want to. I don't want to at all." Faramir shivered as Haldir teased his earlobe and then laughed softly at his words. "That's settled then," he whispered. Carefully slipping from within his lover, Faramir settled beside him and reached for his discarded tunic on the floor. Cleaning first Haldir, then himself he settled down next to his lover and pulled the blankets over them. "Luckily I will not have to wake early for my duties because of the ball last night...so we can rest here as late as you like, and share a late breakfast perhaps?" Faramir pulled Haldir into his arms and snuggled closer to him. //I could so easily grow used to this...Gods, I wonder if he really could truly want me as his husband?// Haldir draped one leg over Faramir's thighs and rested his head on his lover's broad shoulder. "Hmmm," he said softly, "I think that sounds lovely a nice, late morning and breakfast with you. I can't think of anything I'd rather do." Stifling a yawn, he somehow managed to mold himself to Faramir's side, loving the way their skin felt against each others, and the way strong arms held him so gently but firmly. //I have already made up my mind, Faramir. I want to stay if you'll have me.// Smiling to himself, he gave a content sigh and relaxed into his lover's embrace. "Good night, Faramir. And thank you again for choosing me tonight. As I said earlier it was my honor then and it is my honor now, to be with you like this. I will never forget tonight." Finding himself smiling foolishly as Haldir snuggled against him, Faramir simply held his lover tighter. The way their bodies fit together it was as if they were made for one another. He saw Haldir try not to yawn and smiled. "Good night, Haldir...and thank you for accepting. I am the one that is honored to be with someone so beautiful," he whispered pressing a tender kiss against Haldir's cheek. He closed his eyes and simply held his lover close. The night had ended quite differently than it began, Faramir had not wanted to choose someone tonight, but now...he hoped with all his heart that Haldir would choose him in return. ~~~ ~~~ Haldir sat rigidly against the stone wall, his hands curled into fists and his face slowly draining of all color. As soon as he'd realized they were talking about Faramir, he'd stood and started to peer over the wall and tell them that even though he was a guest in their city, he would sincerely appreciate it if they would keep the gossip to themselves or at least confine it to the walls of their own home, and not speak so that anyone passing by could hear. Their words could not have been more ridiculous and he found his anger burning brighter by the moment, already, after less than a day, feeling protective of his intended. But Rumil, ever the peacemaker, had held onto Haldir's arm firmly and whispered that if he caused a disturbance inside the city walls, the king might very well ask him to leave. After low, but heated words, Haldir had shook Rumil's hand from his arm and stalked toward the end of the wall, determined to at least let the women see that he'd heard them, and hopefully, make them feel guilty for saying such things about their steward. Faramir's day had so far been perfect, in fact probably one of the best days of his life. Waking with Haldir in his arms had been the most amazing thing, those beautiful blue eyes opening and gazing into his own. He knew he was falling in love with the Elf despite the fact he hadn't even wanted to attend the ball the night before. After they'd finally gotten up and had a late breakfast, Faramir had to attend a meeting with the councilors, and Haldir had gone with his brother for a walk about the citadel. After his meeting, Faramir had asked a few guards if they had seen the pair of Elves and had been directed toward one of the gardens just on the other side of where the maid servants did many of their chores. Approaching, Faramir saw Haldir standing near one of the walls but was unable to tell if he was looking for something or even at someone. Haldir seemed intent on whatever it was, so Faramir approached quietly. Then he heard the women's voices. At first he wasn't sure what they were talking about and then when the words clicked in his mind, he felt as if ice water had been dumped over him. Faramir stood stiffly a few feet behind Haldir, listening to the women's final words and felt his heart ache in his chest. Had Aragorn felt so much pity for him that he'd done such a thing? Did he know Faramir well enough to know he'd probably choose an Elf? If so were all of them in on it, so that no matter whom he chose they would say yes? Forcing back the tears that wished to gather in his eyes, his mind wanted to just walk away, but his feet seemed rooted in place. Rumil had stood and sprinted after his brother, still trying desperately to stop him. He'd never seen Haldir as happy as he'd been today, clearly already besotted by the steward, and Rumil knew he would be bidding his beloved brother farewell when he returned to Lorien. Haldir wanted to stay here with Faramir, Rumil could already see it in his eyes, and he was unwilling to let gossiping servants ruin Haldir's chances at a life filled with such an unexpected romance. Just as Haldir was getting ready to turn the corner, however, Rumil heard a noise, and turned to look behind them. "Oh, Gods, Haldir," he murmured, grabbing his brother's arm again and forcing him to turn around. Haldir turned toward Rumil, ready to throw his arm off again and tell him to mind his own business when he too, saw Faramir standing behind them. The servants were quickly forgotten and he quickly closed the space between himself and his intended. "Faramir " Faramir swallowed hard and tried to school his expression as Haldir turned to him. He hadn't even noticed Rumil before he had stepped into his line of sight. He fought to bite back the questions that were still ringing in his ears and nodded tersely to the two brothers. "I..." dipping his head down for a moment to try and compose himself Faramir looked back up, "I am finished for the day with meetings," he began, trying to ignore the servants words, "I thought perhaps you'd like to take a walk with me, but I...I just remembered I needed to take care of something. Perhaps I'll see you both at dinner later." It was taking every bit of self-control he had to not ask Haldir if it was true, but Faramir was too afraid to hear the answer. His eyes however, hadn't been able to meet Haldir's and he missed the anger and pain mixed in their beautiful depths. Reaching out and taking Faramir's hand, Haldir shook his head. "Please wait," he said softly, grateful to see his brother drifting away and giving them some privacy. He'd been unsure if Faramir had heard the servants until he noticed that the blue eyes he'd already grown to love wouldn't look at him. "Let me help you take care of whatever needs your attention or, better yet, let's take that walk. Can't this other .thing .be dealt with later?" Squeezing Faramir's hand lightly, he smiled and reached his free hand out to gently tilt his lover's face up. "I've missed you. And I think we need to talk " Swallowing the lump in his throat, he let the words that had been on his mind since he'd first opened his eyes that morning fall from his lips. "Please, meleth. Don't walk away from me like this. They those women they are mistaken." Faramir didn't realize he was clasping his hand in such a tight fist until Haldir's hand gently touched his. Automatically his hand opened to accept Haldir's and even though everything in him wanted to just walk away, he found that he couldn't. As Haldir tipped his head up to meet the beautiful blue eyes before him, Faramir could see the pain there and found himself hoping that what he'd heard was untrue. Then, Haldir spoke again and Faramir jolted and almost withdrew. 'Meleth'. He well knew what the word meant and he stared at Haldir for a moment. "You...did you mean that?" he asked suddenly *needing* to know, to see the truth in Haldir's eyes. Moving closer, Haldir smiled and nodded. He was blushing again, something he hated about himself with a passion, but at the moment, he could not have cared less. "I meant it," he said softly, leaning forward and pressing his lips over his lover's for a moment before pulling away and gazing into tear filled blue eyes. "I know it's been less than a day, but I think I started falling in love with you last night. The women who were talking they do not speak for me. Aragorn did not ask me to accept your offer, nor did anyone else. I accepted because I thought you were breathtakingly beautiful and I find you fascinating, and intriguing and amazing. You stole my heart before we ever even made love, and I can only hope that you will hold to our bargain and still want to marry me nine days from now." Faramir felt tears gather in his eyes, this time from joy as Haldir leaned forward and bestowed a sweet chaste kiss against his lips. He found himself enchanted by the blush staining his lover's cheeks and smiled adoringly. "I think I am falling in love with you too," Faramir admitted softly, the back of his fingers moving over Haldir's cheek gently. "I do hope that nine days from now you still feel the same," he whispered. He felt that he so rarely inspired any sort of deep feelings from anyone in his life, that he prayed Haldir's heart would not change. Haldir relaxed a bit as Faramir spoke, and though he still wanted to give the servants a piece of his mind, he was relieved to see that his lover didn't seem as upset as he had a moment before. //He he thinks he loves me? Gods if only // The way he was talking, Faramir still wanted to be with him, still wanted to marry him, and follow through with their plans. "I will not change my mind," he promised. "In fact, when you are sure *if* you are sure, you still want me, I will marry you at once I do not care if it's tonight, or nine days from now. I know my heart, and I want nothing more than to be wed to you, Faramir. I love you and I always will." Faramir felt his chest grow tight as Haldir said that he loved him and he pulled his lover into his arms, completely forgetting the words he'd heard before, and kissing Haldir until he was breathless. Gently cupping Haldir's face in each hand he stared into beloved blue eyes and smiled. "I don't know how it's possible that you are here...but I am so very glad that you are. I do not see my heart changing either...other than my feelings for you growing stronger each and every day," he whispered softly. His heart wanted to say yes; he'd marry him right now in fact. The two of them simply go to the king and ask him to do it now, right this moment, but he still feared that Haldir would change his mind or would regret his decision after knowing him such a short time. Haldir's lips were still tingling from their kiss as he smiled and he was unable to resist simply closing his eyes and enjoying the feel of his lover's hands resting on each side of his face. "Gods, I am glad you chose me," he said softly before opening his eyes and smiling at Faramir. "And I cannot wait to marry you. I meant what I said, meleth anytime you are ready. No pressure, no worries, but rest assured I will not change my mind, and I pray to the Valar you won't either. I will do everything in my power to make you happy from this moment on." Faramir returned Haldir's smile and nodded. "You already do make me happy...just by smiling at me like that," he whispered. "Would you still like to go for that walk?" he asked stepping back slightly. When he looked up he noticed that Rumil was gone and they were alone in the garden. "I could show you around...since it seems you may be staying here, you might benefit from a tour," he teased unable to stop smiling. Faramir found himself feeling hopeful for the first time in months. Sliding one arm around Faramir's waist, Haldir nodded and laughed. "I think I would love a tour of the place I will be calling my home," he said. "And especially if the tour will be given by the man who will soon be my husband meleth." Faramir felt his heart warm as Haldir spoke and he slipped his arm around Haldir's waist as well. "Well...I suppose your soon to be husband will do all in his power to make sure you know your way around here very well," he grinned. Saying the word husband made Faramir's heart skip in his chest and he wondered for a moment if perhaps he was dreaming. For the rest of the afternoon, Faramir led Haldir on a tour around the citadel and out into the upper circles of the city. It was the most comfortable he had ever felt with someone else in his life, and he found that his normal sense of controlling his emotions slipped away when he was with Haldir. He knew at some point Haldir would need to learn more about his past and why Faramir had always kept such careful control of his emotions, but today wasn't the day for it. ~~~
Faramir smiled when Haldir answered but he knew it hadn't quite reached his eyes. He was still angry at Alderian but he bit that feeling back as he always had. His entire life he'd been taught not to show too much emotion, and at times it was wearing. Like now, all he wanted was to get back to their rooms and simply relax. They made their excuses to the king and queen and then headed up to their rooms hand in hand. Faramir didn't speak much as they walked upstairs and when they arrived at the door, he simply opened it for his lover and followed him in. Trying to avoid what had happened at dinner, Faramir tried to smile as he sat down next to his lover. "I never got the opportunity to ask if you and Rumil enjoyed the tour of the library? I wish I could have gone with you, but I was detained in a meeting." He kept his words light, though he was still trying to let go of the anger that had built up during his argument with Alderian. Haldir curled up on the couch and smiled. "The library was spectacular. I look forward to reading everything in there maybe one day soon you can give me another tour just the two of us, when you have time." Noticing that Faramir was having to make an effort to keep track of their conversation, he leaned back against the arm of the couch and opened his arms. He had, for most of his life, refrained from offering his affections unless he was positive they would be welcome, but he found himself relaxing more and more around Faramir as they spent more time together. Opening his arms seemed so natural to him at this moment, he didn't even have time to worry about Faramir rejecting him. "Come here, love," he said softly. "I think you are more upset about what happened at dinner than you'll admit. Yet I would not have even known you were angry had I not reached for your hand and felt it clenched so tightly." Faramir slowly slid into Haldir's arms and rested his head against Haldir's shoulder. "I'm fine, it...was nothing unexpected from Alderian he...and I have never seen eye to eye on a great many subjects," he said sighing softly. He leaned back and nodded as Haldir had said that he hadn't known he was angry. "I have always had to keep my emotions in check, it was how I was raised," he whispered remembering the many times he'd had to hide how he felt with his father. Resting his cheek on the top of Faramir's head, Haldir closed his eyes and breathed in the scent of his lover's hair. "May I ask why your parents raised you in such a manner? Most Men that I have met in my lifetime have had no qualms about showing their emotions especially when they are angry." Faramir was silent for a moment as Haldir spoke and realized how very little of his life he'd shared with Haldir in the last few days. He'd been so happy with the present and their potential future that he hadn't really considered much about his past. Haldir had told him some about his own past; his life in Lorien but Faramir hadn't shared as much. "Not parents really, my mother passed when I was a small child...and my father. He...he was demanding and my being the second born, well...he had little patience with me. Showing emotion he felt was...a sign of weakness. So over the years I learned to hide that part of myself," he whispered softly. Haldir's arms tightened around Faramir and he pressed a kiss to the top of his lover's head. "I'm sorry," he said softly, letting one hand move over Faramir's arm and down so he could tangle their fingers together while his free arm continued holding him close. "I had no idea about your mother, and I've heard very little about your father, to be honest, but I think I would not like him. How he could possibly think you weak or loose his patience with you is beyond my understanding. I think he is the luckiest man on all of Arda to have been able to watch you grow and turn into this incredible man I have in my arms right now. Where is he now?" Faramir felt his heart skip as Haldir's fingers tangled with his own. The sweet gesture making him love Haldir even more, he knew now more than ever that he was not just falling in love with Haldir, he loved him. With all his heart he loved the beautiful Elf who'd come into his life so unexpectedly. When he asked about his father though, Faramir drew back and looked at him for a moment. "I...I imagined that...you knew. He...he died during the war," he said softly. Haldir lowered his eyes, thinking that he should have asked Aragorn these questions, rather than Faramir, as it was obviously painful for him to talk about his parents. "I'm sorry," he whispered. "I'm afraid I have had almost no contact with anyone here in Gondor but you, and I did not feel comfortable talking about you behind your back. I should have found out these things beforehand and not asked such indelicate questions. But you do know, don't you, that you needn't hide your emotions from me? I love you, and if you're angry or sad or happy, you can always tell me so I can be angry or sad or happy with you." Faramir smiled, and this time it truly reached his eyes as he looked into Haldir's. "Don't be sorry, I should have told you these things. I...I've been so focused on the present and our future that I have hardly thought about the past. There is yet so much you don't know about me...but I hope to remedy that tonight, love. Anything you wish to know about my life I will be more than happy to share with you. It will take me some time to learn to show how I feel easily, but I will try," he said staring into Haldir's eyes and feeling his heart beat speed up from the look of love he saw there. "And...I want you to know...I have said I thought I was falling in love with you...but now, now I am certain that I do love you. No one has ever made me feel comfortable enough to *want* to share these things with them...thank you," he whispered drawing Haldir's hand to his lips and kissing it tenderly. Haldir smiled and gently squeezed his lover's fingers as his heart swelled with love at the knowledge that Faramir felt the same way he did. "I know just how you feel," he said softly, "because I've never put myself out here like this, offering myself to someone, wanting to hold them, wanting to be with them every hour of every day, without this overwhelming fear of rejection. But I don't feel that with you, Faramir. I do wish to know more about your life and your family I honestly want to know everything about you, since we are, I hope and pray, to be married soon." Faramir smiled as Haldir said the last and he pulled his lover into his arms. "I am so glad that you came into my life," he whispered softly against Haldir's hair. "Why don't we spend tonight sharing our pasts, our lives before we met," he suggested. Already he thought perhaps they could simply go to Aragorn tomorrow and ask him if he could announce their betrothal as official instead of waiting four more days. Sliding down and curling up next to Faramir on the couch, Haldir nodded and leaned forward to nibble on his lover's bottom lip. "My life is an open book, meleth, ask me anything you want to know, and please, tell me anything you think I should know anything at all." Faramir found himself wrapped up in Haldir's arms and smiled. They spent the evening sharing everything about their lives, their pasts, and more than once they'd both shed tears. The moon was high in the sky by the time Faramir had glanced toward the window and then he looked back at his lover for a long moment. Taking Haldir's hands in his own he drew them up to his lips for a moment. "Haldir," he began softly, "We only have four more days but...I was wondering...if perhaps you would like to go with me to Aragorn tomorrow and ask if we could ask him to announce our betrothal officially and...and ask if we can get married soon, rather than waiting until Spring." He felt his hands shaking as he held Haldir's and though he knew Haldir had said he loved him and looked forward to marrying him, he still found himself nervous. Haldir's smile spread from ear to ear as Faramir spoke and his heart skipped more than a few beats. "I have been hoping you would want that," he said happily. "I have wanted this since our first night together and if he will agree, I would happily marry you the very moment Aragorn will allow it. I don't think I can wait until spring to be yours and I want everyone to know that I am the luckiest, most blessed Elf on all of Arda to have been at the right place at the right time, and find a love such as yours." Pulling Haldir into his arms, Faramir kissed him tenderly. "I love you so much, and...Gods, Haldir, I cannot wait for us to start our lives together. I am sure Aragorn will be more than happy to allow us to marry as soon as possible," he whispered against soft lips. Before Haldir could speak, Faramir's lips sealed over his lover's and he kissed him deeply. His fingers tangled in soft golden hair, and Faramir drew his lover closer, their bodies fitting together perfectly as their tongues teased one another's. Drawing away he stared into sparkling eyes and smiled breathlessly, as his fingers moved through Haldir's hair gently. Haldir, breathless as well, nevertheless leaned forward and ran his tongue along the seam of Faramir's lips. "I love you too, meleth," he whispered, "so very much. And besides, I told Rumil that I couldn't wait to marry you, and he said he wished to see us wed before he left. Already he is counting the days until he can return to Lorien and take over my talan and tell everyone that he has never seen me happier. I think Lady Galadriel knew though she kept telling me that I needed to come here, and before I left, she told me goodbye and wished me luck. At the time, I thought she acted as if she'd never see me again and now I know why. She must have known I would meet you and lose my heart to you in less time than it took for me to take a breath." Faramir felt his heart swell in his chest as Haldir spoke and he stood up slowly, pulling Haldir up with him. "I'm so very glad she urged you to come here...maybe one day I can thank her for sending you to me," he whispered as he walked backwards, leading Haldir toward the bed. "And I'd like you to come make love to your soon to be husband," he said smiling teasingly as Haldir's eyes seemed to sparkle even more in the dim light of their room. Haldir laughed and followed his lover to the bed, his arousal already getting harder, first from just being in Faramir's arms and kissing him, and then from his words. "I think I would love nothing better than to make love to you, my gorgeous soon to be husband," he grinned as he made quick work of their clothes and gently laid Faramir back on the bed. "And we should make the most of tonight for I'm hoping it will be the last night both of us are single. Tomorrow, we might very well be on our way to being an old married couple." His hands slowly moved over Faramir's skin and he felt incredibly happy that the look of lust and desire his lover's blue eyes were for him. As Haldir laid him back on the bed, Faramir laughed softly as his lover spoke. "I look forward to being an old married couple as well, love," he shifted under his lover as gentle hands moved over his body. He arched into Haldir's touch and watched his lover move over him, Faramir's hands returned the gentle touches and felt his arousal grow even harder. Leaning up, he pressed his lips to Haldir's as his hands stroked down a smooth chest, down over his lover's stomach to cup the hard arousal there, stroking Haldir firmly loving the way beloved blue eyes darkened. "You are so beautiful, love," he whispered. Gasping as long fingers wrapped around his arousal and began to move, Haldir lay beside his lover and touched him as well, matching him stroke for stroke as he leaned forward and kissed him. "It is you who are beautiful, my beloved," he murmured just before his lips descended over Faramir's in a deep kiss. When they finally pulled away for breath, he gazed lovingly into the blue eyes before him and sighed happily. Releasing Faramir's arousal, he reached over to the nightstand and dipped his fingers in the base of the lamp, covering them in oil, never breaking their gaze. The tip of his finger slowly teased over his lover's opening, and he finally lowered his head to gently suck on the warm skin of Faramir's neck, marking him, then soothing the reddened area with his tongue as his finger slowly moved forward into tight heat. As loving fingers wrapped around his arousal, Faramir arched into the touch and moaned softly into Haldir's kiss. When Haldir drew away again, he took a deep breath and watched his lover as he reached for the oil. Their gazes stayed locked, and Faramir could see all the love that he felt, returned. After only a few moments, Haldir was settled between his legs and he felt a gentle finger move against him even as warm lips moved against his neck. He could feel his blood humming in his veins and Faramir found himself pressing his hips back against the slick finger as it breeched him slowly. Faramir's hand continued to move over his lover's arousal as the other gently slid over the smooth skin of his back, feeling the muscles flex and move under his hand. He loved absolutely everything about Haldir, and knew in that moment that he would until his last breath. Preparing his lover as carefully as possible, Haldir concentrated on moving slowly, even though the gentle touches over his skin were making him harder by the moment. He would have sworn Faramir had used honey-flavored soap, he tasted so very sweet, and he couldn't seem to get enough of the man beneath him. A second finger was added to the first and he continued kissing a slow trail over heated skin as he worked both digits in deep, twisting and scissoring until the small opening easily accepted him. The sounds of Faramir's soft moans were like music to his ears, and by the time he pulled his hand away from between his lover's legs and slicked himself, he was shaking with pent up desire and the need to be inside the welcome heat of Faramir's body. He pressed the tip of his arousal against the well-prepared entrance and slowly moved forward, burying himself to the hilt in one smooth motion, then holding still as he rained kisses over Faramir's face as he gave him time to adjust to the intrusion. Faramir was uncharacteristically impatient as his lover slowly prepared him. He found himself writhing under Haldir's touches, simply amazed at how easily his lover could make him want so much. As gentle fingers slid within him, he felt his muscles contract and release around them, his hips shifting back to press them in even deeper. When Haldir finally drew away, Faramir was trembling and he smiled when he saw his lover was in much the same state. Spreading his legs wider, he felt Haldir press against him for only a moment before he sunk forward, burying the hard shaft deep within him in one perfect thrust that filled him completely. Automatically, Faramir's legs wound around his lover's waist, pulling him even deeper as gentle kisses were bestowed upon him. After a moment, Faramir gazed up into Haldir's eyes and smiled, "Please, love..." his words were lost in a soft moan as his lover began to move. Losing himself inside his lover's body, Haldir thrust forward again and again. Their bodies fit together so perfectly, and he wondered how he'd ever managed to live for so many centuries without the man in his arms. They moved together in the age old dance of countless lover's before them, and Haldir's hair fell in a golden curtain around his lover, making it seem as if only the two of them existed on all of Arda. After long moments, he slid his hands underneath Faramir's shoulders and leaned back, until they were chest to chest, and Faramir was in his lap. "Gods, meleth," he murmured, fastening his lips over one of his lover's nipples and sucking gently, "how I love you." They had made love many times since the first night they met, but somehow tonight was even more incredible. They had shared so much tonight, and in the morning they would finally belong to one another officially. It seemed to make what they were now sharing even more amazing, and Faramir found himself lost in his lover's eyes as their bodies moved together. His hands roamed over smooth skin, that he simply couldn't get enough of as the thick shaft moved deep within him, and then within a mere breath, he was wrapped in his lover's arms, his own arms wrapped around Haldir's back. Faramir's leaking arousal was trapped between them, and the delicious friction of their bodies moving together was almost enough to bring him over the edge. Faramir shivered as warm lips moved against his skin and he smiled as his lover spoke, the words seeming to wrap around his heart. "And I love you," he whispered breathlessly in return, "With all that I am, Haldir." Feeling more loved and cherished than he had ever felt before in his life, Haldir closed his eyes and clung to his lover, still delving deep inside him, as his lips moved over Faramir's chest and neck. The exquisite feeling of being at one with the man he loved was almost overwhelming, however, and he felt his release building quickly. Sliding one hand between them, he closed his fingers on Faramir's length and continued thrusting up into the tight passage surrounding him as he began to stroke the weeping organ, already slick with Faramir's own juices. "Come with me, meleth," he murmured breathlessly, as his thrusts became more erratic and his cock seemed to swell within the tight ring of muscle wrapped so snuggly around it. Faramir's breath caught in his chest as long perfect fingers wrapped around his arousal and he found himself thrusting up into the firm grip and back down to impale himself on the hard shaft buried inside him. Sealing his lips against Haldir's neck, he sucked and nipped at the smooth skin, feeling his release building like a wildfire within him. When Haldir shifted slightly within him and struck his sweet spot, Faramir's head fell back and he moaned as his muscles contracted tightly around his lover. Hearing the soft words, Faramir knew he couldn't have held out any longer anyway and moments later he cried out as he spilled hot and slick between them, his body still shifting against his lover's as Haldir continued to move within him. Haldir held on to Faramir tightly and thrust up one final time, the muscles gripping his length wringing a soft cry from his lips as his release slammed into him. He could feel Faramir's seed between them, and the mere thought that he was the one making his lover come undone seemed to make his own orgasm last longer. His sex throbbed within the tight passage as his own essence was released deep within Faramir's body, spasming muscles milking him dry for long, perfect moments. Finally, he gently laid his lover back against the bed, and rested on top of him, trembling and breathing heavily. "That was I mean " His words trailed as he closed his eyes and laughed softly. "I think we are going to have a wonderful, perfect marriage, if our lovemaking is any indication," he finally managed. Clinging to his lover, Faramir felt Haldir's arousal pulse within him, his release spilling hot and slick within him as Faramir's muscles continued to grip his lover. Their bodies slowed, even as they continued to move against one another, drawing out every last moment. As he was laid back against the bed, Faramir's arms and legs wrapped firmly around his lover, holding him within him and loving the intimate connection with the Elf that he loved so dearly. He laughed softly from Haldir's words and pressed a gentle kiss against soft hair. "I think you might be right, my love," Faramir whispered in agreement. For long moments they simply held one another, until finally Haldir slipped from within him and Faramir bit back a regretful sigh. "Are you as anxious for morning to get here as I am?" he asked curiously after a moment. He simply couldn't wait until they could go to Aragorn. He had never wanted anything more in his life than he wanted Haldir to be his husband, officially, and forever. Haldir nuzzled against Faramir's neck and smiled. "I was actually wondering if he'd gone to bed yet," he murmured. "Or even if he had, if he would mind terribly if we woke him." Faramir's hands moved over Haldir's back, and they stilled as his lover spoke. "We could always ask the guard outside our door if the king has retired," Faramir suggested. He was loath to release his lover at the moment, but if Haldir were serious, he would certainly not miss the opportunity. Drawing back to gaze into Faramir's eyes, Haldir's smile widened. "Really? I would love nothing more than to at least try. We can always have a larger, more formal ceremony later but tonight, if the king would permit it, would be all ours." Staring into Haldir's eyes, Faramir could see how serious his lover was and he returned the smile. "All ours...I like the sound of that," he whispered, though his arms didn't move to release Haldir just yet. "So we do this now...tonight, if he agrees? You are certain?" Haldir leaned forward and licked at his lover's lips playfully something he'd never done with anyone else before, but something he found he enjoyed immensely. After a moment, he moved back and studied Faramir's dear face, so serious and slightly nervous, even now. "I have never been more certain of anything in my life, my beloved Faramir," he whispered. "Are you? Are you sure you want to do this tonight? We can wait if you'd rather, but I know my heart and it belongs to you completely. That will never change, no matter if we marry tonight or fifty years from now." Faramir smiled happily and nodded, "I do want this, want you....more than I ever have wanted anything in my life. I truly wish to be your husband and the sooner we can start our lives together...the happier I'll be," he said tangling his fingers with Haldir's. "Of course...it will mean we will need to get up and dressed to do so," he teased. Nothing had felt so right in his life, Faramir had spent so many hours worrying about things in the past, thinking and over thinking them, but this decision was the easiest he'd ever made oddly enough. "Well," Haldir sighed dramatically, "there's a down side to every plan." Reluctantly dragging himself from atop his lover, he stood and pulled Faramir up to stand beside him. He turned, grabbed both their robes and offered Faramir's to him. "Of course, technically, when we return, it will be our honeymoon, and I imagine the king would give you a few days free from your duties so we can celebrate." When his robe was fastened, he reached out and took Faramir's hand in his own. He knew he was rambling, but couldn't seem to help himself. He was excited and happier than he'd ever been in his life, and though he was nervous, it was the *good* kind of nervous, he decided. "I don't think the king will mind if we're a little underdressed, do you?" Faramir laughed softly as Haldir stood and helped him up. As they dressed in their robes he realized that he couldn't *stop* smiling at his very soon to be husband. "I don't think he'll mind...he hoped for this. After overhearing the servants a few days ago, when I met with him the next day he asked how you were...and...I mentioned to him that there seemed to be quite a few rumors about you and I floating about. He and I spoke, and he told me that though he truly hoped we would meet, and had it on good authority that we would...he had certainly *not* spoken to you about it. Though I already knew that...you'd already told me it wasn't true and I believed you. I trust you...with my heart, my life, everything," Faramir whispered. Haldir's eyes flashed for a moment as Faramir spoke of the servants, but his anger was quickly pushed aside by the his lover's next words. It still made his heart ache that they'd talked about Faramir that way, not to mention the fact that he'd overheard them, and Haldir couldn't blame him for mentioning the conversation to Aragorn. "I would never hurt you love," he said softly, giving Faramir's hand a gentle squeeze. "I trust you as well, and I'm so thankful that you stayed and listened to me that day. Their words could not have been more untrue, and my heart would have broken if you'd believed them and walked away from me that night." "I have to admit my first instinct was to leave, to pretend I hadn't heard them at all and just...hide my feelings. Like we talked about earlier...but when I looked in your eyes I knew...I knew that you loved me," Faramir whispered returning the gentle squeeze of Haldir's fingers against his own. He smiled then and pressed a tender kiss against Haldir's lips, "Now that we are dressed...well at least decent...perhaps we can go see if Aragorn is available?" Haldir nodded and resisted the urge to sprint to Aragorn's quarters. "Absolutely, my love," he said as they left their room and hurried down the hall. "I can't wait to marry you. And somehow, I don't think he'll be surprised to have us show up on his doorstep in the middle of the night. I've seen him smiling as we walk by, and more than once; he's asked me when the big day will be. He knew neither of us would change our minds." "I always thought he was an intelligent man," Faramir teased as they approached the royal suite. They stopped in front of the doors, holding one another's hands tightly, as Faramir nodded to the guards that flanked the door. Nervously, he raised his hand and knocked softly as he stole a quick look at Haldir beside him. When the door opened, Aragorn was still dressed as he had been at dinner, and Faramir sighed inwardly, relieved that they hadn't woken the king. Aragorn looked from the man to the Elf for only a moment before a brilliant smile spread across his face. "And what would the two of you like at this late hour?" he asked stepping back from the door and opening it wider so the couple could enter. Arwen was in the sitting room of their chamber and smiled brightly as Haldir and Faramir entered the room. She and Aragorn had teasingly made a little wager between them how many days earlier then the 10 days of the festival they would end up at their door...she was happy that she'd won by a few hours. "Pardon us for coming so late...but...Haldir and I...we...we would like to move our wedding up. We've decided that...we will not need the full ten days and...if possible get married as soon as we possibly can," Faramir explained. "As in tonight, if you would be willing," Haldir explained, as his face colored slightly and he heard Arwen attempt to muffle her laughter. Aragorn grinned as Haldir spoke and his face colored. He'd known Haldir for years, and was accustomed to see him blushing or being almost too shy to even speak at times. Because of that shyness, Haldir had gotten a reputation of being aloof and unfriendly, but those who knew him well, knew the truth. "Tonight? My...that is short notice," he said trying to suppress his laughter as he saw Faramir preparing to argue the point but before his steward could say anything Aragorn laughed, "I'd be honored." Arwen stepped forward and placed her hand on her husband's arm. "I'm so happy for both of you," she said softly. Faramir found his own face coloring as the royal couple stood before them looking almost as happy as he felt himself. "Thank you...we...we just don't want to wait any longer to share our lives together officially," Faramir said smiling. "Then you shouldn't have to," Aragorn smiled. He stepped back and allowed the couple to move further into the room. "I do expect though, that we'll have a more official ceremony later, the steward of the city will be expected to have a public ceremony, but I think a private one now...will be just fine." Haldir smiled at Faramir then looked back at the king. "We thought as much," he agreed. "We wanted tonight to be just for us. We only met a few days ago, but it seems as if we've waited for this moment forever. I guess I should ask your leave to stay permanently in Minas Tirith, my Lord. I expect I shall not return to Lorien, except to visit, and then only if you can spare your steward for a few days." Aragorn smiled and nodded at Haldir. "Of course I will spare him to visit his new family in Lorien, I'm sure your brothers will wish to meet your husband. And...of course you don't need my permission to stay here, it is a free city after all...but I know both Arwen and I will be honored to have you a part of it, Haldir." Aragorn took a deep breath and looked at the happy couple. "So...if that settles everything we can get started." Aragorn quickly went through the 'short version' of a Gondorian marriage ceremony, dispensing with much of the pomp and circumstance due to the late hour and the fact he knew they'd be doing this again publically very soon. Arwen had stood at his side smiling at the couple, and already thinking ahead to what the public ceremony would entail. They were clever really to have it done this way because the public ceremony due to Faramir's station would take several weeks to prepare for, and the wedding itself won't be anywhere as short as what they had tonight, though no less official. When Aragorn bade them to kiss she squeezed her husband's hand happily. Faramir and Haldir could not be more perfect for one another. They both hugged the happy couple, and watched from the door for a moment as they hurried back to their rooms. Faramir had thought he might be nervous during the short ceremony, but he found the moment he looked into Haldir's eyes, nothing in the world could have made him feel anything but excitement and love for the Elf before him. When they left, thanking the royal couple, they moved swiftly back toward their rooms. "I love the sound of the word husband when it is applied to you," he whispered as they stopped at the door. "As do I, my dear husband," Haldir smiled. "And even though we made love earlier, I find myself thinking that we should really do it again it being our wedding night and all, especially since Aragorn said you had the rest of the week free. I don't know about you, but I don't think we really *need* to get any sleep tonight " Faramir laughed as they stepped into their room. "I do believe there is some sort of rule about *having* to make love on your wedding night...if not there should be one," he teased as his arms wrapped around his husband's waist. "I just have to say that you have made me the happiest man on all of Arda, love," Faramir whispered seriously as he gazed into the sparkling blue eyes that had captured his heart and soul. Haldir wrapped one are around Faramir's waist as the other lifted so he could gently comb his fingers through his lover's hair. "And you have made me the happiest Elf," he smiled. "I will forever be thankful that we met at the betrothal party and that you saw *something* in me that made you chose me even though you only did it because you thought I would refuse." His teasing was gentle, and he laughed as Faramir started to protest, and then continued. "Come to bed, gûren. Let me show you just how thankful I am " Faramir's hands moved slowly over his husband's back as Haldir spoke and he almost protested but then laughed with his husband as he followed him to their bed. He would be forever grateful that somehow he had found the one person who made him feel complete. Tonight would be the first night of their new lives together, and over the years they would never spend a single night apart from one another. The End.
