[Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3] [Chapter 4] [Chapter 5] [Chapter 6] [Chapter 7] [Chapter 8] [Chapter 9] [Chapter 10] [Chapter 11] [Epilogue] Chapter 3 Sean sat waiting for Faramir to return with Aragorn. Just the idea of that made Sean want to laugh like the mad hatter. For crying out loud this wasnt real none of it. It must be his imagination, but why? What had happened that was so horrible that his mind had transported him into a fantasy world? He was starting to understand it a little bit. He had been on set, someone screamed his name, and then it all went black. Obviously something had happened, something bad. His being here in this world was his mind shielding him from whatever trauma had taken place. Sean had read enough to know it was possible, but everything here felt so real. Soon Sean didnt have time to think on it any more because he heard footsteps in the marble hall and then the great double doors of the library swung open. Aragorn strolled through, dressed elegantly, crown and all. Seans emotions were starting to get the better of him. Part of him wanted to just run up to the man and throw his arms around him and cry, the other part knew this wasnt really his friend. As Aragorn approached Sean suddenly wasnt sure how to react so he did what he knew was proper and bowed to the King of Gondor. Please, do not bow to me, you remind me so much of my dear departed friend. Aragorn stated. Sean rose with tears welling up in his eyes. He missed his Aragorn in his world. Why do you cry? Aragorn asked concerned for the blonde man. I miss my friends, my home, I have children in that other world. I have people I care about, and I want to go back to them. I dont know whats happened to me, why I am here. Sean said finally breaking down. This man looked so much like Viggo it was easy for him to just say whatever came to mind. Sean collapsed no longer able to bear his own weight, and Aragorn caught him and eased them both gently to the floor. It will be all right, my friend. Aragorn whispered softly as he held the man who was sobbing heavily. I can not understand all of the pain you are feeling, but I do understand some of it. You remind all of us so much of Boromir. Rise and gather yourself, for tonight we shall have a great feast to welcome you. As long as you are in this world you will be treated as Boromir would have, should he have returned home. Aragorn turned away from Sean as a tear escaped and ran down his cheek. He couldnt tell the other man that Boromir was more than just his friend. He had loved the warrior, and was broken hearted when the man died. Just having Sean near was as painful as it was joyful. He could see so much of his lover in the blonde man but he could also see now this man was not his Boromir. ------------------------------------- Viggo stood in the doorway unable to move just staring at the figure on the bed. Hed been standing there a few minutes and finally willed himself to move to the side of the bed. He reached out and took Seans hand in his own and then slid to his knees and put his head down on the side of the bed beside him. He finally let the tears come that hed been fighting all afternoon. Sean, please if you can hear me, you gotta wake up. We need you, your girls need you, and I need you. Viggo whispered between sobs. After what seemed like hours to the people waiting in the hall, Viggo emerged with eyes swollen and red. So? Asked Peter. Hes still out. Viggo replied giving him a quick hug, and then Peter went in. Viggo collapsed into a chair and Christine handed him a cup of coffee. He tried to smile at her but he wasnt able to. Sean Astin crossed over and handed his daughter to his wife then knelt down on his heels in front of Viggo. Hell be all right. I know he will. Hes just gotta be. Viggo looked at him and nodded. Yeah, hes tough. Though Viggo didnt exactly believe his own words. --------------------------------- Sean was pacing in his new bedchamber. They had moved him from the Houses of Healing to Boromirs old chambers, which to him felt beyond strange. The servants came in and had placed new clothes for him on the bed, and he had taken a bath glad to get that damn wig glue completely off his head. He pulled on the new clothes, and soon a servant knocked on his door and escorted him to the dining hall. He felt strange the way the servants looked at him. They all thought he was some kind of apparition come to life. They treated him as if he were Boromir and some even accidentally called him that before they caught themselves. When he entered the dining hall his mouth went dry. To say the place was opulent would have been an understatement. He was shocked that when he walked in the room Aragorn stood and the rest of the guests did as well. He felt awkward and remembered his old character Sharpe feeling nervous and awkward in a similar situation. At least he didnt have to worry about tripping over his sword like Richard did. He was escorted to the head of the table and Queen Arwen embraced him, which thoroughly shocked him. It took a moment before Sean could return the hug. You do so resemble my husbands dear friend. You will always be welcome at our table, Sean. Arwen whispered. Sean felt a lump grow in his throat and merely nodded before taking his seat. Aragorn then said, Tonight we feast and celebrate, the life of a man beloved in Gondor, who died with honor protecting those he had grown to care for. At the same time we welcome a new friend to our world. Treat him as you would the man he so reminds us all of. Sean blushed and was unable to look up from his plate. Once everyone started eating and conversing he felt more relaxed and began to glance around at the people gathered. He noticed the Lady Eowyn was staring at him, he assumed it was because she was curious about her fiancés brother, who he wasnt but in a strange way he did feel connected to Faramir. Perhaps it was just from knowing the characters, and being such good friends with David. He looked down the table and noticed the hobbits grouped together. Merry and Pippin were as cheerful as the characters his friends played. Then Sean saw Frodo, pale and quietly eating beside Sam. Suddenly he felt as if he couldnt breathe. My God what he must think of me. Sean thought to himself. He couldnt remain at the table any longer and quickly excused himself and left the room. He went out onto a balcony and leaned against the railing trying to catch his breath. Soon Gandalf appeared in the doorway, You left in such a hurry. You missed the entertainment. Are you all right? Is your wound still bothering you? The wizard asked kindly. No, its not my head its my heart. Sean said softly. What do you mean? Gandalf asked curiously. I am not Boromir, yet I know the character, inside and out you might say. I saw Frodo at the table, and I couldnt bear it. What the boy must think of me. Boromir betrayed him, tried to take the ring. Though I am not him I feel as if he still might see me as the man who had forsaken him. Sean answered sadly. Gandalf sighed as he lit his pipe, You are right. He said softly and Sean spun to look at him. You are not Boromir. Frodo does not hold any ill will against you, nor does he hold any ill will for Boromir. It was the ring that possessed the man. The ring almost possessed him as well. He knows how evil it was. You should talk to the boy. ------------------------------------- Viggo woke up feeling stiff. He had fallen asleep in an uncomfortable chair in the hospital corridor. He looked around and most of the fellowship was either in chairs or stretched across a couple of them asleep and Fran was curled up with her head against Peter. They were all waiting for Sean to wake up. Viggo decided to go get a cup of coffee and maybe something to eat. Even if it was hospital food it was still food, he hadnt eaten since breakfast. He made his way for the cafeteria and got several strange looks, hed almost forgotten he was still in costume. When he finally found the cafeteria and had gotten a cup of coffee and a piece of pie that looked somewhat edible he turned and saw Christine sitting at one of the tables with Alexandra curled up in the chair next to her asleep. Mind if I join you? He whispered not to wake the sleeping child. Not at all. Any change? She asked. None. She sighed and looked down at her cup. I just had to get away from everyone, Alex was getting restless. We came down here and then she just fell asleep. I know I should have let Liv watch her but Sean wanted her with us. Viggo grinned at her. Kids have a tendency to sleep anywhere. My son could fall asleep in the oddest of places at that age. Did Peter call Seans ex-wives? Viggo asked suddenly thinking of Seans daughters as he watched Alex sleeping in the chair. Yes. They are due to leave out with Seans mother in the morning. I do hope he wakes up before they get here. She said thinking how she would have felt seeing her father like that. Viggo had difficulty swallowing at that thought and nodded. Yeah. A couple moments of silence passed and then Christine burst out, It could have been my Sean, Viggo. I know that sounds so wrong to say that you are glad it happened to another person, but I dont know what to feel. I feel guilty for even thinking it because I love Beanie. Viggo crossed around the table and gave her a hug. Its ok, its ok. I think its natural to think something like that. You arent a bad person for thinking it. I feel so wrong even saying that to you, I know how you feel about him. Christine said sniffling. Viggo sat back and looked at her. What do you mean? He asked warily. Oh come on, Viggo. You cant tell me you dont. I know love when I see it. Christine said trying to smile. At that point Viggo began to cry himself. God look at us. He whispered trying to laugh and cry at the same time. Were a mess arent we? Christine laughed, Yeah, a good mess though. She said leaning in to hug him. So Im that transparent? Viggo asked pulling back and attempting a grin. No, I wasnt really sure until today. Id suspected before, but yeah today I knew. She answered. I think Ian knows too, Im not good at hiding my emotions at times like this, Viggo admitting sitting back down. I just wish I had told him before, ya know? Not that it would have made a difference, but I wish I had told him. What if what if he doesnt wake up, Chris? Viggo asked sadly. Oh, Viggo. He will he will. Chris said with fresh tears spilling down her face as she squeezed his hand across the table. Continue to Chapter
