Title:
No More Goodbyes Chapter 2 Once back in Los Angeles Viggo moved on with his life. At first it was painful, he hadn't realized he really had fallen in love that fast. He and Sean did write to each other for almost a year. Then one day one of his letters was returned marked no forwarding address. Sean had moved and not written to give him his new address. It was just as well...they were oceans apart, literally. Viggo moved on with his life and his acting career. He met a woman, got married and had a wonderful child. Then one day he saw Sean's name connected to the new James Bond film. He was playing the bad guy. Viggo went to the movie alone and smiled as soon as Sean came on screen. He'd changed some, more muscular, even more beautiful if that were possible. He never told his wife about Sean, he'd never told anyone about Sean. Two years later Viggo and his wife split. It was for the best.
Viggo was sitting in his living room writing in his journal when the phone rang. At first he thought about not answering it but decided to anyway. He shut his journal and picked up the phone. He was a little surprised at who was on the other end of that call. It was Peter Jackson the man directing the Lord of the Rings movies. He listened to his request. "Well I dunno...Lord of the Rings huh? I've never even read the books." Viggo answered. Henry immediately tugged on his arm. "What part Dad!?" "What part again Peter?" Viggo asked. "Aragorn." He repeated to his son. "Oh Dad that's a cool character...you'd be so cool in that role!" Henry said excitedly. Viggo thought for a moment and then asked Peter if he could think about it for a bit, just one day. Shooting had already started and he would be replacing someone else. He felt just plain weird about that, normally he took a while to commit to a film but Henry was very excited about it. He wrote out a list of questions and called Peter back the next day. Peter answered them all graciously and then Viggo asked. "So who are the other actors in the Fellowship?" Peter began the run down alphabetically and on the second name Viggo thought his heart might stop in his chest. "Excuse me did you say Sean Bean?" Viggo asked clenching the phone tightly. "Yes." Peter answered, then continued the list though Viggo didn't hear the rest of it. "I'll do it...I'll be there." He told a very ecstatic Peter. "What made up your mind?" Peter asked curiously. "If I didn't I would be a coward." Viggo answered. He figured that Peter would take that differently than he meant it. The next day he was on a plane headed for New Zealand and Sean Bean. Viggo thought about the box of letters he still had from Sean...the ones he kept under his bed back home. They were wonderful but there was one he always carried with him. Viggo dug out the crumpled, yellow, and stained slip of paper that had been taped and re-taped over the last fifteen years. The lettering was faded. "Viggo, glad you made it! Stick around after. S" After all these years would Sean even remember him? "This might be a huge fucking mistake." Viggo said to himself as he got off the plane. It was late when he arrived so the driver Peter had sent ushered him off to the rental house he would be staying in. Nice place near the beach. Peter, Fran, and Phillipa came to visit him that night and gave him his schedule and script. The next morning Viggo awoke early. He showered and got dressed and was met at precisely seven by the same guy who picked him up from the airport. "Ready to meet the fellowship?" The guy named Tony asked. "As I'll ever be." Viggo mused as he got in the car. He was nervous as hell but he'd manage it. Sean might not remember him anyway...though how one forgot two days of sex like that and writing to someone for nearly a year, not to mention a name like Viggo Mortensen he wasn't sure. Not exactly like his name was John Smith. When he arrived at Peter's office he was led to a conference room. "Hi Viggo! The rest of the cast will be here soon." Peter told him. Viggo sat down at the long table and tried hard not to drum his fingers on it. He felt ready to jump right out of his skin he was so nervous. When the door opened four young men came in. Viggo stood and shook hands with the lot of them trying to get their names straight. Sean Astin, Elijah Wood, Dominic Monaghan, and Billy Boyd...they were the hobbits. Then in walked a surprisingly beautiful Mohawk sporting young man who introduced himself as Orlando Bloom he was playing Legolas the Elf. Viggo smiled at him and shook the young man's hand. Then in came three more people and Viggo thought his heart was pounding so loud the entire room might hear it. He shook hands with John Rhys Davis, and with Sir Ian McKellen, and then there was Sean Bean standing there looking at him with a grin. "Sean?" Viggo whispered stepping up to the blond. He felt like his heart was about to leap out of his chest. "Hello is always better than goodbye." Sean whispered so only Viggo could hear and he grinned. They shook hands as if they'd never met before but they knew. That evening Sean walked by Viggo and slapped him on the back. "You owe me a beer." Viggo laughed heartily at that. "I guess I do...you aren't charging interest are you?" Sean laughed. "If I was then you're going to be buying me a lot of beer." "We have a long time here." Viggo said smiling. "That we do...but not long enough I think." Sean said smiling. "No, not long enough. You stopped writing." Viggo said softly so no one else could hear. "Yeah...I moved...I sent you a letter with my new address but you never wrote back." Sean said softly. "I never got the letter." Viggo said equally as soft. Sean looked shocked and frowned. "Wish I had known that. I...I had written saying I had met someone and was getting married...and gave you my new address in that same letter. I thought...I thought you didn't write back because of that. I didn't know." Sean said sadly. Viggo stood there for a moment and then frowned. "It's in the past now." Viggo offered and Sean smiled. They went to the pub and Viggo bought Sean a beer. Just like the night they met except this time he paid and this time they went back to his place. They sat on the couch and talked nearly all night again. About the movies they had done, people they'd worked with, and about their marriages and children. When Sean said he was married a third time Viggo just stared at him. Their timing yet again sucked. "It's not going well." Sean said looking down at his hands. "None of my marriages have gone well...start off good...go south real quick it seems. Abby is an actress though...thought maybe it'd be different with her...she'd understand me better...but she doesn't. She filed for divorce just before I came here." Viggo wanted to say because she's a woman, because she's not me but held his tongue. It wasn't the time or the place to bring that up. "Sorry to hear that." Viggo lied. He wasn't sorry at all and that made him feel even guiltier. "It's alright. Just hate it for Evie my daughter." Sean explained. Viggo felt even worse, he knew how that guilt felt...how hard it was when he explained his divorce to Henry. He knew what that felt like and he hated that Sean was going through that again. "Well you know you always have a friend in me...always." Viggo said getting up to grab another beer. "You want another beer?" Viggo asked from the kitchen. "No...I uh I best be going actually." Sean said standing. "Oh...well I'll see you later then." Viggo said closing the refrigerator door. "Yeah...see you in what four hours? We are too old for this all night shite." Sean said heading for the door as Viggo laughed. "Sean?" Viggo asked crossing the living room quickly and actually jumping over the end table by the couch to catch Sean before he opened the door. "Yeah?" Sean asked turning a bit shocked at Viggo's vault over the end table. "I said yes because of you." Viggo said looking intently into those green eyes he had missed for so very long. Sean stood there for a moment and then smiled that brilliant smile Viggo loved so much and had missed seeing for far, far too long. "Goodnight, Viggo." Sean said softly before stepping out into the night. Viggo closed the door behind him and leaned against it letting the tears come. He wasn't sure if they were tears of happiness or sadness. He wasn't sure Sean still wanted him that way...had too much time passed? --------------------------------------------------------------- Viggo had to play a bit of catch up the next several days sword practice and shooting was long and arduous. By the end of the day he was exhausted and could barely crawl into bed let alone bother with dinner. Finally they were going to have a day off...a single day off. Viggo walked into the makeup trailer and Sean was there. "Hey...missed you all week. They're keeping you busy." Sean mused. "Yeah, they are. Trying to catch up two and a half months in a week is something I do not recommend trying. I'm definitely not as young as I used to be." Viggo said grinning and letting the makeup girl take off his wig. "Well...you too tired to eat?" Sean asked. "No...what have you got in mind?" Viggo asked trying to hide how happy he was that Sean was wanting to spend time with him again. "Steak...my treat." Sean answered. "Sounds great...where do you want to meet?" Viggo asked. "My place...I'm cooking." Sean grinned. "Cooking? Well maybe I should check my health insurance rider on my contract first." Viggo teased and the makeup girl laughed. Sean laughed. "Just come by around six, ya daft sod." "Alright, see ya at six then." Viggo responded as Sean slipped out the door with a wave. Not two seconds later Viggo realized he hadn't asked where Sean lived. "Shit." He muttered as the door swung open. "What?" Orlando asked stepping in the door. "Oh Sean invited me for dinner at his place but I forgot to ask where his place was." Viggo said laughing. "Smooth, Viggo." Orlando teased. The boy gave him Sean's address and even directions though they were the most bizarre he'd ever been given. After Viggo went home, showered and changed he headed for Sean's. He made it about ten after six. Sean opened the door. "You're late." "Sorry." Viggo said sheepishly. Sean laughed. "I'm not mad about it you daft bugger...come on in." They ate dinner and talked with that same comfortable ease they always seemed to have with one another. God Viggo had missed this...had missed Sean. They knew each other for two days fifteen years ago and it was so surreal how the feelings were still there. How attracted he still was to Sean. "Hey you wanna go out on the deck? You'd be amazed at the way the stars look here...have you had a chance to look at them yet?" Sean asked. "No I haven't...I'd love to." Viggo said stepping out the sliding glass door behind Sean. "I read your books...and have watched every movie you've been in....even the really....really horrible ones like Chainsaw Massacre III. What were you thinking?" Sean teased. "Needed money, plus it was kinda fun." Viggo answered trying to act offended though he wasn't doing a very good job of it. Sean laughed and shook his head. "So what did you think...of the books?" Viggo asked curiously. "Oh now your asking me for a critique? I think the CD with Recent Forgeries was what I loved the most. Getting to hear you read the words...just incredible, smart move that I think. The paintings in your books are hard to see though...pages are far too small don't do them justice." Sean said smiling fondly at him. Viggo laughed. "Well would be a bit difficult to print a four foot by four foot book don't you think?" Sean smiled. "Guess it would." Viggo smiled. "I've tried to keep up with you over the years too...good work you've done. You sure play a lot of bad guys in American films." "Thanks, I honestly don't know why you American's make Brits the bad guys in your movies...what still got something against us from the Revolution?" Sean asked laughing. Viggo laughed. "I dunno, seems that way sometimes doesn't it?" "Viggo...you remember when I said someone will take notice and give you something even if it's just a role to look pretty for?" Sean asked after a moment and Viggo laughed. "Yeah I remember." "I was right wasn't I?" Sean asked grinning. "Oh so that's why you made me dinner to gloat about being right?" Viggo teased shoving him with his hip. Sean laughed and then got a very somber expression. "I've missed you, Viggo. So much that there are moments when I wish we hadn't met back then...and then there are times I wouldn't have given those few days up for the world. You know I still have all of your letters?" "Me too." Viggo agreed softly. "So...I'm for all intents and purposes single again...you're single...here we are. We are fifteen years older and presumably wiser. What happens now?" Sean asked. "I dunno." Viggo answered setting his beer on the rail of the deck and looking up at the stars. They were beautiful here, Sean was right about a lot of things. Sean's hand slipped over the top of Viggo's on the railing. Viggo turned to him and smiled. "You're still stunning." Sean whispered softly and Viggo closed his eyes. He was transported back fifteen years to a hotel room in London with that phrase. The way that Sean had looked at him, the way Sean still looked at him. It was like no one had ever looked at him before or since then. Sean leaned over and kissed Viggo softly. They drew one another into the embrace, kissing with more heat, more passion than either of them had felt in years. When they broke the kiss Viggo smiled at Sean. They both felt it...just like then...this was where they belonged...together. "Let's not wait another fifteen years?" "No, definitely not." Sean answered and kissed him again. "So no more goodbyes?" Viggo asked. Sean laughed. "Never...not for longer than a couple months...that work? Plus we can both afford telephone calls now right?" Sean answered kissing him again. "Yes...cell phone. Pre-paid calling cards. E-mail." Viggo said punctuating each word with a kiss. "Things have changed a lot in fifteen years." Viggo said grinning against Sean's lips. Sean pulled back slightly and smiled and then cupped Viggo's erection that was pressing against him. "Not everything has changed in fifteen years." "No...not everything. Can we just shut up so you can fuck me now?" Viggo asked laughing. Sean laughed unzipping Viggo's jeans. "What no foreplay?" "I think fifteen years is more than enough." Viggo said laughing as Sean's hand slid inside his jeans. The
