The Kitchen Witch --------------------------------------------------------------- [Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3] [Chapter 4] [Chapter 5] [Chapter 6] [Chapter 7] [Chapter 8] [Chapter 9] [Chapter 10] [Chapter 11] -------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 10-Idol Worship When Sarah arrived Viggo felt like he was wound tighter than a drum. After dinner they sat in the living room and he finally got up the willpower to tell her several things. "Sarah I have to tell you something. I hope that what I tell you now isn't completely squashed when I tell you the second thing." Viggo began. She looked at him but didn't interrupt. "I know we haven't known each other long, but I have fallen in love with you." Viggo told her quickly before he lost the nerve. Her face lit up and she smiled broadly. "Oh...well I feel the same way." She began. "No please wait...I have more to say." He said taking her hands in his. If they were in his hands maybe she couldn't slap him. He didn't think Sarah would but the only example he had to go on was Xene and she would definitely slap him...or more likely punch him. "I did something today....at the police chief's suggestion." Viggo began...oh sure drag the old man into it to make you look better. He thought. "Anyway I called in a favor from a friend...who has a good friend that works for the L.A. Times Entertainment section." Viggo stopped as he saw Sarah's eyes widen. "Go on." She said softly. "Umm well you have to realize how important it is, that if he ever does come after you that there be some sort of record...you never pressed charges when your neighbors called the police so now there is nothing really to prove he had ever hurt you in the past. We well the chief and I thought that there needed to be something that would be on record...publicly that is." Viggo said rubbing her hands in his. Hers were shaking but she still hadn't said anything. "Trial by media you mean?" She asked. "Yes." Viggo answered. She stood up and as she did jerked her hands out of his. Shit...she is about to rip me to shreds. He thought. She stormed toward the fireplace and stood there for a few minutes. "How could you do that? How could you? Do you realize you are ruining a man's career?" She asked. He could feel the hairs on the back of his neck standing up. "Did he care when he was beating the hell out of you...really Sarah come on...your LIFE is worth more than his fucking career!" Viggo snapped standing up and striding toward her. She backed away from him and Viggo backed off...he would not hurt her ever but she didn't know him that well yet. The room seemed electrically charged now...he had never felt such tension in the air before. He stepped back over to the couch and leaned against the back of it. "You had no right!" She yelled at him and he swore the room just got brighter. "Sarah I care about you...I don't want to see him hurt you anymore." Viggo tried to make her see his side of it. "Viggo this could come back to bite us both in the ass, don't you realize that!?" She yelled and this time he knew for sure the room got brighter because the fireplace just leapt to life. He was so stunned he tried to back up but forgot there was a couch behind him. "Uh Sarah...think you can bring it down a notch babe?" Viggo asked then realizing what was happening. "What?" She asked her eyes were practically glowing. "Think you can turn it down a bit...the cottage is warm enough honey we don't need the fire." Viggo said stepping to the side of the couch so he could make for the door if he really felt the need to. Oh she was definitely a witch and why she never used that power on Bradley he had no idea. That should have scared the fuck out of the man. She turned and saw the fire and then froze in place. "Oh dear...oh dear...I am sorry." She said turning back to the frightened man she cared about. She was scaring the hell out of him. She was scaring herself, she had not started learning and gaining her powers until after she left Brad...mostly because he was squashing her spirit so much. "It's uh.... it's ok. I can't believe I am not running out of here screaming...but yeah it's ok." Then he found himself using a Sean Astin line..."Just um as long as you don't turn me into anything...unnatural." It would be funny Viggo thought if he weren't about to have a fucking heart attack. Sarah stepped toward him then and he backed up a step. She stopped. "Viggo I am not going to hurt you." She said softly with tears in her eyes. Viggo froze in place. Ok I can handle this...the woman I have fallen in love with has an abusive ex husband and she is a real fucking witch...I can handle this. Right. "I am angry but I am not going to hurt you...not with magic or anything else." Sarah said then and waved her hand and the fire went out. Viggo stared at the fireplace for a moment and then back at her. "Ok...so you want to start from the beginning?" Sarah smiled. "Yes." They went back to the couch and sat down. Viggo refrained from touching Sarah though...afraid that might be pushing a bit too far...she was still bristling a bit. Sort of like a cat when they are pissed off at you. He thought. "Ok...I am a hereditary witch...normally my powers only lie in the kitchen thus I am a kitchen witch. I am a healer; you know herbs, and potions, stuff like that. Normally I don't do the fire and spells, and tossing things and people about without moving like Maria." She explained. "Maria?" Viggo asked...well duh she could read minds idiot. He mentally smacked himself. "Maria is more of an elemental witch, watch how she stirs her coffee next time you have her over or something. Anyway only when I am really angry lately can I pull things like the fireplace off. I am sorry about that. I wasn't angry with you really...as much as I am angry at my own fear." She explained. "Ok...so you are a witch...why haven't you used this against Brad...surely he would have stopped hitting you the first time you lit up a room like that." Viggo asked. She laughed. "I was young when I met Brad and really hadn't learned anything yet, and my powers weren't really manifesting. My mother died when I was a child so she never got the chance to teach me anything. The book you saw in my house was the only way I had to learn who I was, what I was. Then the abuse started right after we got married and the more he squashed my spirit and self esteem the weaker my powers were. I couldn't even cook after a while, which was where my powers really lie. It wasn't until I left him and ended up here on the island and met Maria that I started really learning my powers." She explained. "Using magic against a person for revenge is forbidden...using it to harm is forbidden. The rule of three is binding...whatever you do to another will come back on you three fold." She explained. "You said what I did would bite us in the ass...that's not true...I didn't use magic sweetheart I just called a reporter who wanted a juicy story that's all." Viggo explained softly. "It wasn't revenge, it wasn't to gain power, or money, or anything, it was for protection...I thought protection was allowed." She nodded. "How much do you know about witches?" She asked then. "Not a lot but I know that much from books I have read. Hell Sarah I'm not an idiot you know. I sorta figured it out that morning you said a spell over my tea....what was the spell anyway?" Viggo asked. "When I touched
you that morning I felt it...you had a fever so I said; She was a hereditary witch...not just someone who wants to think they are. He'd been around enough in his life to know the difference. Would explain a lot about the island really, how the cottage gardens are blooming in late September and the bookstore and café decor. He bet if he went back and explored more they carried ritual items mixed in with the books. Like the ritual items he had spied on her bookshelf at home. "Ok...so you are still mad at me right?" He asked then. "Not so much anymore I guess." She said softly looking down at her hands. He let out a sigh of relief. "Ok, so what now? I told you I am in love with you.... you showed me you're a witch...what happens now?" She began to laugh. "I tell you that as much as you made me angry tonight I never once doubted how much I love you." With that Viggo pulled her into his arms and kissed her deeply. "So what I feel for you...there's no uh hocus pocus in that is there?" She giggled. "Hocus pocus? Oh really Viggo, no I have not bewitched you...you did that part all on your own." "No I think you helped...these pretty green eyes helped." Then he kissed her softly next to each eye, "And this pretty gold hair helped." He said running his fingers through it. "The way you blush so easily when I touch you." He said kissing her cheeks. "And these soft lips helped." He said leaning and claiming her lips with his. "You know even in Wicca idol worship of a living being isn't allowed." She said smiling. "I'm not Wiccan, and I am not particularly religious otherwise." Viggo said smiling. "So I can worship you all I want." She giggled as
he scooped her into his arms and carried her to the bedroom. Go to Chapter 11 |
