The Moose, the Tree, and the Irish Writer --------------------------------------- [Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3] [Chapter 4] [Chapter 5] [Chapter 6] [Chapter 7] [Chapter 8] [Chapter 9] [Chapter 10] [Chapter 11] [Chapter 12] --------------------------------------- Chapter 10 The next morning Viggo woke up it seemed unusually bright in the room for being so early then he realized the light had been left on. He slipped out of bed and got dressed, turned off the light and went down stairs. He went straight to the barn. Viggo had been working with the horses for about twenty minutes when Sean walked in. "Good morning." Sean said smiling at him. "Morning." Viggo said dumping feed into a bucket. "Sleep well last night?" Sean asked smiling. "Yes, yes I did." Viggo smiled back. "Oh figured you did you know your walls are awful thin." Sean responded. Viggo turned a little red and shook his head. "Came to lecture me about sex, Sean?" Viggo asked filling one of the feed buckets. "Not at all seems you know what you are doing from what I could hear." Sean teased. Viggo rolled his eyes. "Jesus, Sean. Sorry." Then they both laughed. "Don't be sorry." Sean said softly. Sean grabbed the other bucket and helped Viggo with the horses. "You ever ride these things?" "I haven't since I got back from New York Tabby and Kate took them out while I was gone but they do need exercise. They don't like being left to pasture all the time. Why you want to ride with me today?" Viggo asked. "No, Orlando might, or maybe Tabby she seems to like the beasts." Sean said patting Sky's muzzle. "Oh and you don't?" Viggo asked watching his friend. "I do but I only ride them in movies." Sean teased. "So when Tabby's car is fixed what are you going to do?" "I don't know." Viggo said leaning against the wall. "You told her you loved her?" Sean asked. "Yes." Viggo replied, "And she said she loves me." "Good now all you gotta do is ask her to stay." Sean said looking over at him. "I don't know Sean you have been married three times I have been married once already I am not sure that would be a good idea. She does have a life, a place in Taos, and her career and I have mine. I am not always here in Idaho, I am not sure if we would work in L.A. or when I am on a shoot you know? Hell I don't know if we will work until the end of the fucking month, Sean. I know every part of me wants it to work, but what if it doesn't. What if I want more than she does or vise versa?" Viggo said looking solemn. "That's a lot of what ifs and maybes, Viggo. I didn't tell you to marry her, I told you to ask her to stay be a part of your life." Sean said simply. "I do want that I want her to be a part of my life and I want to be a part of hers but once she goes back to her life will she still want me?" Viggo asked. "I think she will." Sean said as he hung the feed bucket back on the wall. When they returned to the house Tabby and Orlando were at the kitchen table laughing. She had on a cute red plaid dress that looked very Irish and Viggo could hear the washer running in the laundry room. Her clothes still hadn't arrived and she was out of clothes, though Viggo was sure if Sean and Orli weren't here he would insist she not wear any. He almost smirked at the thought. "Something smells really good." Viggo said as he planted a kiss on Tabby's forehead. "Orlando and I made a vegetable frittata should be ready soon." She said smiling. "Mmmm." He said sitting down. Sean smiled. "Mmmm indeed Orli's frittata's are delicious." Sean said smiling fondly at Orlando who actually appeared to blush. Viggo sat a bit straighter in his chair as he started to realize what was really going on. He looked at Sean and then at Orlando and then at Tabby who also was looking at them oddly then Tabby smiled widely. "So when are you moving your things into Sean's room Orlando?" Tabby asked seriously. Viggo coughed. She didn't mince words, that's for damn sure. Sean and Orlando looked like two deer caught in headlights. Tabby laughed. "I am a writer observing people is what I do I have suspected it since you arrived but now I know for sure. When were you planning on telling poor Viggo?" She asked softly. Viggo shifted. "Yeah, when were you going to tell your best friend Sean?" It was Sean's turn to look uncomfortable now. "I uh we um oh hell." Orlando smiled. "What he is so eloquently trying to say is we got together a few months ago we wanted to tell you but we didn't want to do it over the phone then once we arrived, well Mike had just passed, Tabby was here and well we just weren't sure when to say something." Viggo smiled brightly. "I only have one question I thought you were straight, Sean?" "I am
or
I was
I still am I guess
hell I dunno." He so eloquently
stated again.Orlando laughed. "He hasn't exactly come to terms with
it yet either I think
neither of us have really. Though I can say
it's nice to get it out in the open with you two. Thanks, Tabby for being
the one to bring it up
I think both Viggo just smiled at his two friends. "Well at least now I know why the two of you the last few months have been practically attached at the hip." Tabby had trouble swallowing her tea and burst out laughing. All of them seemed to get what had amused Tabby so much and Viggo turned a bright shade of red. "Sweetheart that wasn't the best choice of words I should think." Tabby said wiping tears from her eyes and patting Viggo's hand. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The next two weeks passed quickly, too quickly, Viggo thought. He dreaded Bob's call that would mean Tabby's Jeep was ready. He didn't want her to go, he had told her that he loved her, she said she loved him...they had shared his bed every night since he got back from New York, but was it enough? She did have to leave; her agent was having a fit already, calling daily hassling poor Tabby about responsibility and commitments. Tabby seemed to get sadder each passing day, she knew she had to leave and she didn't want to. Sean and Orlando had left for Los Angeles to visit various hobbits, and once Tabby was gone he would be alone again. He never minded alone before, he loved being alone, lost in his thoughts, his art, his poetry, his photographs, but this time he didn't want to be alone. He couldn't force her to stay, and she did say she would come back. They had talked about it...after she finished the promotions for the book she would be back in four weeks. Four weeks, longer than they had known each other. How could he fall in love so quickly? He had fallen in love with her the day he met her. Viggo stared at the canvass in front of him...it was still blank and had been for the last three hours. Tabby was upstairs writing. He hoped she was getting more accomplished than he was. Tabby sat at her laptop staring the blank screen unable to put words down so she sat there listening to a CD instead. The lovely lyrics making her want to cry; "Who can say if your love grows as your heart chose-only time." Tabby wanted so many things, she missed Ireland, and she loved Viggo, but was unsure if a love that happened so fast could last. Sure it did in her books but that was fiction and this was life. Life was never as good as it could be imagined...though the last three weeks had been like a little bit of heaven for her. She looked down at her hands on the desk, four weeks. Four weeks apart after only three weeks together. Bob would be calling any day now; he only had a few things left to do to the Jeep. God she loved Viggo and he said he felt the same, but so quickly...well how could that last? She wanted children...she wanted marriage. Viggo jokingly said about marriage when Sean and Orlando were still there, 'been there, done that, don't recommend it.' when he was teasing Sean who was saying it took him three tries to finally learn that lesson. Maybe this was best...she did promise to come back in four weeks after her commitments were done...but she wasn't so sure anymore. It broke her heart in two to think that, but what kind of future would they have, could they have if they each see their futures so differently? She would push for what she wants and he would pull away...she didn't want to remember Viggo as bitter and unhappy with her. Then the phone rang downstairs. Tabby jumped...she jumped every time the phone rang the last few days. Viggo came upstairs slowly. "It was Bob." He couldn't say anything else. He just stared at her slumped shoulders and knew exactly what she was feeling...because he was feeling it too. She stood up and started closing down her computer and packing things into a bag. Viggo stood staring. "So, you are leaving today? Now?" "Aye, I think it's probably best I do it quickly before I have too much time to think about it." She said trying to smile but failing miserably at it. Viggo stepped into the room and wrapped his arms around her. "I love you, Tabby. I know you have to go, but know that I am going to miss you." He said kissing her forehead softly. "I do know, and I love you too and am going to miss you so much...but I have to do this. I promised Janie." She said pulling away and finishing what she was doing. "I will drive you to town when you're done." Viggo said moving aside as she put more items in the bag. Go to Chapter 11 |
