Chapter 2

Sean and Gandalf talked for a couple of hours, answering each other’s questions, and Sean was feeling a bit more comfortable.

“Do you think you are ready to face the others? They will all have questions.” Gandalf asked.

“Yes, though I’d rather have a few more clothes. I assume when they found me I was in my costume?” Sean asked.

“Yes, it is in the wardrobe there.” Gandalf indicated.

“Thank you. I’ll only be a few minutes,” Sean said crossing to the wardrobe as Gandalf let himself out.

Sean dressed, but left off the heavy chain mail and the leather vest and bracers. He wouldn’t be needing them.

He had just finished lacing his boots when a knock on his door got his attention.

“Yes?”

“May I come in?” It was David’s voice or rather Faramir in this world.

“Yes.” Sean answered standing up to greet the other man.

When Faramir entered he was shocked a bit by the other man’s appearance. “You cut your hair?”

Sean laughed, “No, took off the wig…has Gandalf explained anything to you yet?”

“Yes, some. I know you are not my brother, though you so look like him,” Faramir said softly.

“I guess I do, sorry if it is uncomfortable for you. I don’t understand why I am here and neither does Gandalf,” Sean explained. “I suppose in time we will figure it out.”

Faramir nodded. “You do know of my brother though?”

“Yes, did Gandalf explain that to you?” Sean asked sitting down on the edge of the bed and inviting Faramir to sit in the chair.

“He tried, I am afraid I still don’t understand completely.”

Sean set about explaining what he could to Faramir and told him that he played his brother. Told him about the books, and the movies, and how much he loved the character, which made Faramir’s eyes light up at the mere mention of Boromir’s name.

After some time Faramir stood and said, “There is one, Sean who very much would like to speak to you.”

Sean nodded wondering who it might be of the fellowship. Perhaps Frodo since Sean looked like the man who had betrayed him?

“The King has been beside himself since he found you. He has been unable to sleep, unable to eat for worry of you. As much as I loved my brother, Aragorn loved his friend, and he was who held Boromir as he passed. So it has been a terrible shock to him finding you. Gandalf has been speaking to him while I have been here with you. I would like to see you alleviate some of his pain.” Faramir explained.

Ever the loyal Steward, Sean thought feeling a strange sense of pride for Faramir. Of course Aragorn would want to speak with him, he desperately wished that it were Viggo though. He could use the connection with his friend right now. As peacefully as he seemed to be taking all of this, his mind was still reeling, not to mention the fact it still throbbed every time he moved too quickly.

“Actually I’d like to get out of this room, could you take me to him?” Sean asked.

Faramir did just that, but as they walked through the levels from the Houses of Healing to the Kings chambers people would stop what they were doing and stare at Sean.

“Perhaps this wasn’t the wisest idea?” Sean asked as they passed stunned citizens of Minas Tirith.

“They all know the tale of finding Boromir.” Faramir stated, “We will just have to explain it later to them.”

Sean nodded and continued to walk with Faramir. When they arrived at the uppermost level of the city Sean fell back a bit allowing the other man to lead him.

They entered what looked like a library and Faramir asked him to wait there. Sean walked over to the window seat and sat down.

“I hate fucking hospitals,” Viggo muttered as he paced the hallway for the millionth time it seemed.

“Viggo, man you are making me dizzy,” Orli complained shifting in his chair.

“What’s taking so long?” Viggo asked looking intently at the doors the gurney had passed through.

“Viggo, you need to calm down…Sean will be fine. Do you want some coffee?” Ian asked trying to placate the worried man.

“No, I don’t want fucking coffee, I want to know how Sean is. Aren’t any of you worried? You’re his friends too?” Viggo asked wondering why he was the only one that seemed to care that Sean was hurt.

“Pacing, and worrying, are not going to help, they are just going to make you feel worse. The doctors are doing their jobs. There is nothing we can do except wait, making ourselves sick while doing it won’t help Sean.” Ian said wisely.

Viggo turned and gave Ian a pained look, and the older man knew instantly that what the younger man was feeling was far more than feelings of friendship. His eyes clearly shone with the pain of regret.

Ian stood and crossed to the pacing man and put his arms around him. “Sean will be fine, you’ll see. A bump on the noggin is all it was—you of all people know how hard headed he is.” Ian whispered in his ear.

Viggo snorted and embraced the older man. “I know…I just wish…”

“Shhhh,” Ian stopped him, “It will be all right.”

Viggo felt tears begin to prick at his eyes again and sighed letting Ian lead him to a chair.

He sat down and put his head in his hands. When Peter and Fran walked up they saw the fellowship minus Sean sitting together. They gave each of them coffee or tea and joined them to wait.

Peter felt horrible, not only was one of his actors hurt, but he had practically taken the crews heads off for the accident. That’s all it was, an accident. No one could have known it would happen. Safety was always a huge concern of everyone’s with all the stunts they had to do, and this was a scene no one could have imagined anyone getting seriously injured doing.

When Christine Astin rounded the corner into the hall the scene should have been hilarious. Everyone in their costumes lining the hall of the hospital but it was far from funny. She ran over to her husband.

“Is he all right? Have they said?” She asked Sean taking his hand. As soon as he saw his wife Sean began to tear up. He could have been the Sean in that other room, he hadn’t been standing but four feet from Beanie when the rig came down.

“No, they haven’t said anything to us. God, Chris it was scary. That lighting rig came down so fast and hard, Beanie didn’t even know what hit him I think.” Sean whispered to his wife as tears finally spilled down his face.

She just hugged him and slid into the chair next to him that Elijah had vacated.

Soon a doctor came out of the door where Sean had been taken and immediately Viggo was on his feet. “How is he?”

The doctor explained that Sean was still unconscious but there didn’t seem to be any sort of neurological damage. He said that Sean was pretty bruised up and had a nasty gash but otherwise seemed physically fine. They were giving him drugs to alleviate any swelling that could make things even worse. Now all they could do was wait.

“Can I see him?” Viggo asked.

“Yes, but as I said he’s not awake, and may not be for a while yet.” The doctor explained.

Viggo nodded grimly and followed the doctor. Peter wanted to go too, but he knew Sean and Viggo were close. So he waited. He’d need to cancel filming for how long he wasn’t sure, this couldn’t have happened at a worse time, and then he felt even more guilty. Stop being so selfish and thinking about your damn movie! He thought to himself.

When Viggo entered the room he felt tears well up in his eyes again. Sean looked so small on that bed. His head wrapped in a white bandage and an I.V. in one arm, a blood pressure monitor on the other.
